“I wish it was me that they were attracted to.” Adres leaned into him, his face still tilted towards the blue sky. “It’s the warmth. Your winters are long here. I think they are just trying to soak up as much heat as they can.”

“Winter is almost over. This is usually the last of the snow for the season.”

“And then comes spring.”

“Your favorite season,” Macauley declared, sensing it as more warmth seeped beneath his skin. Macauley let the thick blanket fall from his shoulders and relied on his mate to keep him from freezing. He licked a searing path from Adres’s shoulder to his throat. “Your skin feels warm with the sun on it.”

Thank you. A gift from my cherished.

You’re welcome.

Macauley was trying to ignore his cock nestling between Adres’s ass cheeks, but the longer they stood there basking in the morning light, surrounded by nature, desire continued to coil in his sac. Adres hummed in agreement as Macauley pressed his palm in the center of his back and bent him forward. With a firm hold on his mate’s hips, he eased inside him and took him with enough vigor and passion that it made the animals scurry away.

His orgasm hit him fast but he held on tight as he ground his pelvis against Adres’s ass, not wanting a drop of his seed to be wasted. He wanted his mate to be saturated with his scent so that another wolf couldn’t stand to be near him.

Give me more, beloved. Fill me up.

Macauley went down on his knees, taking Adres with him. After they came apart in each other’s arms again and again, Macauley drifted into a peaceful nap. He didn’t stir again until he heard his betas running towards him. He and Adres were still lying on the ground in the melted snow, still encased by the warmth of Adres’s light, when he suddenly popped his head up.

It’s okay. It’s just Bundy, Rich, and Anna.

But I’m naked! Adres yelled in dismay before he flashed into the tent as Macauley’s betas came into sight. He didn’t bother running. He felt too damn good to move, so he reclined back and tucked his hands behind his head.

His betas had stupid, shit-eating grins on their faces as they began to pack up his belongings to return to his cabin.

“Go ahead and say it,” Macauley grumbled with his eyes still closed.

“So, how was it?” Bundy was the first to speak up.

“Cover that shit up, please.” Anna tossed a pair of sweats at Macauley’s half-hard cock.

Rich chuckled. “Yeah, man, so tell us. Did you guys make the mountain move?”

Macauley shook his head at them. “A real man doesn’t brag. A simple congratulations is all you guys need to say.”

I thought the earth moved.

Macauley smirked as he realized he was already in love with his mate. You better get dressed; Rich is about to take the tent down.

Once Adres and Macauley had reached the bottom of the mountain, he noticed that the pack lands were abuzz with activity. Everyone was outside and milling about as if they were waiting on an announcement. There were a few waves in their direction, but apparently Adres wasn’t the new mate that everyone was dying to see. And according to him, the omega could not have come at a better time because Adres preferred to keep a low profile.

He was unsure if he should follow Macauley to his home—because he wasn’t ready to leave his side yet—or if he should go to his cabin and not smother him.

Macauley gripped his elbow and turned him around, pulling him into his hard chest. “Go get your things and bring them to my cabin. Your nights and days will be spent with me.”

Adres was never going to have another private thought in his life. A slight curve tilted the corner of his mouth as Macauley shook his head. And he was okay with that.

No. You sure won’t. And I guess me either. Macauley shrugged. But I have nothing to hide.

Me either, beloved.

“I have to stop by my shop and let my workers in, and then we’ll go to Justice’s house. I want to see this omega that has the compound in an uproar.”

“Yes,” Adres agreed, casting his eyes down to Macauley’s throat. He didn’t lower them to the ground but just enough to show his submission.

Macauley jerked him in tighter and pressed his mouth to Adres’s bared throat. Don’t start anything you can’t finish, he growled. “I suggest you go unless you want the pack to hear what you sound like when you—”

Adres flashed away, leaving Macauley chuckling as he heard him mutter, I thought so.

“Hey, guys,” Macauley greeted his two apprentices who sat sitting on the bench in front of his shop. He jogged up the steps and unlocked the front door. “Today should be pretty light. I got a few deliveries for you to make, and Leron, I want you to go ahead and start the sanding on Marissa’s new dining set. She’s actually paying with cash, so let’s make sure there’s not a nick on that surface.”
