His own noises of pleasure filled the room, filled my stomach, filled my heart, as he made my body his. He took all of me, filling me up and making me want as much of him as he’d give me.
“River!” I screamed as I felt my climax barreling down. I didn’t want it to end, but I wanted to feel this, feel complete release in his arms and underneath him.
“That’s it. Come for me. Show me how much you want this. I’ll be right there with you, Jack. Fucking hell. Your body. I can’t…”
The release hit me full force, contracting my muscles and sending my brain flying. I was only vaguely aware of River shouting my name, his hot, damp skin against mine, the thick, delicious burn of his cock inside me, and the scent of our spunk between us.
It was the single hottest moment of my life.
EIGHT
RIVER
I wanted to laugh. I wanted to sing. I wanted to shout my incredulity from the rooftops.
Jack Wilde lay a sweaty heap underneath me. His stomach was coated in jizz, and he had a goofy grin on his face. It shouldn’t have been life-changing… but I knew it was. The single night that would change the course of my life forever.
I was going to fall in love with this man.
I knew it the way I’d known I was gay the summer I turned fourteen and saw a Nike ad on television. I knew it the way I’d known that I was meant to study biology. It was simply one of the truths of my life.
“Why are you staring at me like that?” Jack asked, suddenly looking self-conscious.
“I want more than this,” I blurted with no finesse whatsoever.
His eyes flashed with pain and disappointment. He tried to roll away from me as my words hit my ears, and I realized how they’d sounded.
“Stop,” I said. “I mean, wait. Stop. Please listen.”
I could see Jack turtling up. He was going into insecure self-preservation mode, the same kind of emotion that had undoubtedly caused his panic attack earlier.
I brushed the sweaty hair back from his face. “Jack… I want more with you. I want you. But I want… I want more than one night. I want this to be the beginning of something.”
The change that came over his face was breathtaking. “Really?”
I leaned in and pressed a kiss to the edge of his mouth before moving it to his cheek, his eyelid, his temple, and his forehead. “I’ve wanted you for a long time. I never knew you’d be interested in me too. And I…”
For some reason, my brain chose this moment to remind me of all the obstacles. I was moving back east. He was a Texas boy through and through. He—
Jack grabbed my face and forced me to meet his eyes. “Now you listen,” he said. “I want that too. So whatever just made your face fall… you need to tell me right now. If you’ve changed your mind that fast, I need to know.”
He was adorable in his newfound confidence. I wanted to see more of it.
“I didn’t change my mind. But I’m moving to Connecticut. To take a job at Yale.”
His face lit up. “You got a teaching position at Yale? That’s incredible!”
I realized we had a lot to talk about, and I hadn’t even cleaned him up yet. I rolled off him and pulled him up, throwing him over my shoulder to carry him to the shower.
He yelped and then laughed—the same pure, joyful laughter I’d heard that first day at the gym. The best sound ever.
Once I stood him up under the hot spray and joined him in a full-body hug, I exhaled.
This was everything I’d ever wanted. Comfort. Excitement. Home.
“I want you in every way,” I admitted softly against his ear.
He pulled back and met my eye. He looked a little unsure again. “Dr. Malley at XXX has been trying to get me to transfer to join her research team. Isn’t that close to Yale?” He bit his lip. I could tell he was worried I was going to scoff at the implication of him moving with me.
But I felt the opposite. My heart soared. I leaned closer and held him extra tight. My throat felt like there was a giant knot in it. “That would be incredible,” I managed to say. “Would you… would you consider it? The program there is well respected. More even than Barrington’s. So even if you changed your mind about… about me…”
Jack pinched my ass, shocking me into a yelp. I pulled back and stared at him in surprise.
“I know this is fast,” Jack said. “But I am ready for a change. I need to get some distance from my parents and from Texas. And if the Dr. Raintree scandal is going to break, the department here is going to take time to recover.”
