I nodded. “I think… I really don’t think I want to go back to school in the fall. Is that crazy? My mom will lose her mind.”

“It’s not your mama’s life. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that what works for me, doesn’t work for others. I would never expect my kids to live the way I do. We all have to find our own kind of happiness. She’s your mom. I’m sure she’ll understand.”

I hoped so. The thing was, I wasn’t sure she would.

“You deserve to follow your dreams; everyone does.”

For the first time in my life, I thought maybe, just maybe, it was time for me to do exactly that.

“When you get your own shop, I hope you know I’m going to be your first client.” Elsie smiled.

“I’ll give you a discount.”

She winked. “Only good thing about being old is the senior discount. Now tell me more about this hunky boyfriend of yours.”

Ridiculously, I giggled. “He’s taking me away this weekend.”

I spent an hour doing Elsie’s makeup and gossiping with her.

For the first time in my life, everything felt like it was truly falling into place.

“It’s exactly like I pictured it,” Seth said with wonder in his voice as we pulled in front of the lake house and got out of the car. Just seeing that light in his eyes had been worth the almost two-hour drive out of the city.

Once we grabbed our bags, we stared at the pretty lake with the midday sun beating down on it, like diamonds glinting off the water.

“Let’s check out the place.” I reached for his hand and knotted our fingers together as we stepped onto the porch, and Seth used the key we’d gotten from the property manager to let us inside. The space was open concept, filled with natural light, and just the right size. It was charming really, with new appliances, comfy furniture, and a quaint brick fireplace in the living room.

Fuck, it felt good to be away from it all. There was something about being near the water and being with Seth that felt calming and exciting at the same time.

Seth opened the fridge to place our groceries inside. We’d be grilling steaks later, and while he was lining up the waters we’d bought on the shelf, I quickly and quietly unloaded stuff from my bag in the lower cupboard. Unbeknownst to him, I’d purchased chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers to make s’mores because of the memory he’d shared about his father.

Then I followed him down the hallway, past the guest bedroom, to the master, which was a cozy size, and placed my bag on the dresser beside his. As he began unpacking his clothes, I stepped behind him, encircling him in my arms, and breathed him in. “You smell good.”

Seth sighed and melted into my embrace as I kissed his ear, then his nape, so many tender words hanging off my lips.

Goose bumps lined his skin as I sucked on a spot right below his ear that always made him shiver. When he turned in my arms, our mouths crashed together in a clamber of teeth and tongues, hands winding in each other’s hair.

We fell back on the bed and lay side by side, kissing softly. I loved being in the moment with him, enjoying the soft flicks of his tongue and the way his mouth fit so perfectly against mine.

Our kisses turned frantic, and I rolled onto my back, taking him with me as we messily pulled off shirts and pushed down shorts, trying to keep our mouths fused together while our hands roamed and our shafts slid together in a rhythm that set my teeth on edge.

“Can’t seem to get enough of you,” I murmured, and he gasped when I took both our cocks in hand and began stroking us into oblivion.

I wanted so much more with him, but I also liked exactly what we were doing, the pace we were going, and would keep touching and exploring him as long as he was comfortable.

It didn’t take long for both of us to spurt all over my stomach. As he settled against me, a laugh bubbled up in his throat, and soon enough we were both chuckling.

“What the hell are we laughing about?” I asked as he buried his face in my neck.

“I don’t really know,” he replied as his shoulders shook and my fingers played teasingly over his lower back.

When he glanced up at me with a contented grin and softened eyes, that was the moment I knew I was gone for this guy who had come into my life seemingly out of nowhere and turned it upside down in the best possible way.

He rolled off the bed to grab a towel from the bathroom, which we hadn’t even had a chance to explore yet, and when he returned, I looked openly at his nakedness as he stared blatantly at mine, even as a flush of color crawled over his cheeks. And as he was about to cross his arms to cover himself or say something self-deprecating, I shook my head. “Don’t. You’re beautiful, Seth. I’m lucky to be here with you.”
