Jesse suddenly rolled over and straddled my legs, and feeling his smooth skin made my cock come to life again, even though I was pretty spent from us taking advantage of an empty house.

“I am absolutely not tired of you.” He readjusted himself. “I might be a bit sore, though.”

“Yeah?” My fingertips trailed down his spine, making him shiver. Fuck, he was so responsive to my touch, and I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get used to it. I kept that information to myself, though, because it had gotten pretty intense between us recently. Especially the night he sang to me in the Underground and I’d made some confessions of my own.

But at least now everyone knew he was off-limits, and I could breathe more easily despite all the hungry eyes on him. Still, I didn’t want to overwhelm him with too many feelings, even though I was pretty sure I was in love with him. I wanted to keep it light and not freak him out—and counted my blessings that I was someone he wanted to spend time with.

He leaned down to rub our noses together, then gently kissed me, which made my stomach all mushy. We made out for a while, and just when things were beginning to get heated again, he pulled back, his face growing serious. “I want to tell my parents about you. About us.”

“Okay,” I replied in a gentle tone. “I’ll support any decision you make.”

“Thanks.” He glanced around the room. “I just wish…”

I clutched his waist, prompting him to look at me. “What?”

“It’s stupid.” He shook his head. “I’d love to be here for a change and see Hailey open her gifts on Christmas morning. Not that you’d invite me—”

“Of course we would.” I reached for his shoulder. “How about we have a celebration of our own when you get back?”

“I like that idea,” he replied dreamily. “I need to think of some gift ideas. Unless that freaks you out?”

“Who doesn’t like a gift?” My pulse quickened as I sat up. “In fact, how about a little pre-gift?”

His eyes sparkled. “What do you mean?”

“Okay, well…hear me out.” I cleared my throat to plead my case. “I thought…instead of taking the bus to see your family…you should take my car.”

His jaw dropped. “What? No. Why would you—”

“It’s only for a few days, and besides, it’ll help you feel less trapped. You can come and go as you please. Especially if things don’t go so well after you…talk to them about us.”

I could tell he liked the idea but was going to fight me on it. Stubborn little thing. But it was the perfect plan, especially since he decided he was going to confess more stuff to his parents. I admit, it worried me. But having his own transportation was a good solution. And I had prepared for this by taking my car to Mark’s mechanic friend and asking him to check the brakes and the air pressure in the tires. He’d be all set.

“But what… How would you…”

“I have Bree’s car as a backup, and I can Uber to work. It won’t be a big deal at all.”

He reached for my face, his eyes softening. “Seriously? You’d trust me with your car?”

“Of course.” I brushed my fingers beneath his chin. “Wait, you have a driver’s license, right?”

“Duh.” He scoffed as if I’d offended him. Totally adorable. “I opted not to have a car because it was expensive and, well, I wasn’t going to ask my parents for help. I wanted to do it on my own.”

I kissed him softly. “You totally have, and they should be proud of you.”

We made out some more, and then he rolled off me and started getting dressed. It was now late afternoon, and since it was a Friday, we both needed to be at work in a couple of hours.

“Has Chet said anything more to you?” he asked, buttoning his jeans.

“You mean about the fact that we’re dating?”

He nodded, concern in his eyes.

“No, but I think as long as the tips are coming in—and they definitely are, especially after your performance in the Underground last weekend—he’s happy.”

“I’ll be sure to play it up again tonight.” He turned and wiggled his ass enticingly. Christ.

“Unless you want me to drag your butt back to bed, you better finish getting dressed.”

He shifted uncomfortably. “Not sure I can handle a railing like that again for another couple of days.”

I froze. “Wait, did I hurt you—”

“No, silly, I fucking loved it.” He crawled across the bed toward me. “It gets me all swoony when you’re protective like that. Like a caveman. Rawr.”

“Oh, I’ll show you a caveman.” I pulled him down and tangled him in my arms and legs, swatted his ass, and then kissed him senseless.

Jesse

The next couple of weeks were really freaking great. Our night by the water was always in the back of my mind, the things I’d admitted to Dane and the things he’d admitted as well. I knew that hadn’t been easy for him. People were all built so differently. Dane and I were the definition of that, so I took his words and his offer for what they were—a gift, proof that Dane cared for me, maybe the same way I cared about him. The words were just a bit harder for him to use.
