“It’s okay,” she says again, rubbing her thumb over the back of my hand. “I understand.”

We sit in silence for a few moments, and then Gia sits back and drinks her wine with a long, pensive sigh. “That was really intense.”

“The truth often is.” Our gazes connect for a long moment, the air cracking between us.

“Some days, I wish I didn’t love drinking and drugging and partying. But I do. I’m not trying to obliterate the pain, just dull it a little bit.”

I nod, my expression serious. “I get that. I do. But you have to be careful, Gia. You don’t know what they’re putting in drugs these days. Fentanyl is a killer.”

Gia’s eyes widen and she takes a sharp breath. “I know,” she says. “I am careful. I promise.”

“I really hope you are,” I say softly. “You’re a good person, Gia. Don’t ever forget that.”

“Yeah, about that." She smiles and a blush crawls up her cheeks. "I’m working on it,” she says in a dismissive tone that holds a wealth of truth in it.

I look at Gia and nod before I stand and take my plate to the sink. “I hope you do, Gia. You’re beautiful and talented, and I have a feeling you can do a lot more than you give yourself credit for if only you believed in yourself.”

She’s silent behind me, and I busy myself with rinsing to give her time to absorb my words, to let them sink in until she starts to believe them.

“I’m not sure that’s true,” she says, her voice right behind me. “But thank you for saying so.”

“I only speak the truth, Gia.” I turn and lean against the counter, crossing my arms over my chest.

We stand there for a moment, neither of us quite sure what to do next. Then Gia reaches up and brushes her fingers over my cheek. “Thank you for telling me your story.”

I catch her hand in mine and bring it to my lips. “You’re welcome, Gia,” I murmur. “Thank you for understanding.”

She smiles, and I know even before her smile fades what’s about to happen. The air between us thickens and electrifies, her pupils dilate, and she licks her lips in preparation for what comes next. She steps forward and wraps an arm around my neck.

“Never realized how hot honesty could be.” And then her mouth is on mine, hot and sweet, fiery and almost out of control as if she can’t get enough of me. There’s no hesitation in Gia’s kiss, not even a hint that this isn’t exactly what she wants to be doing.

Our tongues and teeth clash, her hands roam the width and length of my back, and my hands tighten on her hips before looping around her waist and down to her ass. It’s tight and round, absolutely fucking perfect.

The kiss goes on and on, and I know if I don’t pull back now, if I don’t stop this before it goes further, I’ll have her naked in my bed in the next few seconds.

Gia pulls back with heavy-lidded eyes and a satisfied smile. “What’s it gonna be, Preacher Man? You gonna turn me down again, or will you give us what we both want right now?”

I want to tell her we should wait, but I don’t. I grip her ass and pick her up, enjoying how her legs easily wrap around me as I walk out of the kitchen and down the hall to my bedroom.

“I thought you said we should wait,” Gia teases.

“I changed my mind,” I reply, kissing her neck. “I want you now.”

Chapter Seventeen

Gia

Fuck me. Has any man ever kissed me so deeply? So soundly? The answer comes swiftly as I cup Preacher’s face and suck his tongue. Hell no.

The man’s mouth is pure fucking magic, and every pass of his tongue and every little nibble of my lips makes my nipples hard and floods my panties.

This is it. This shit is fucking happening.

My body fuses to Preacher’s as if this is how it’s meant to be, how it was always meant to be, which is fairytale fucking thinking on my part, but there’s something about this man. His big body and quiet strength covers something intense about him. Something lethal.

I grind my hips against him as he kicks the bedroom door closed and locks us up in this bubble. The need for oxygen wins out against my need to never stop kissing his full lips, and I pull back, smiling and gasping.

Breathless and completely and totally enthralled by the big biker. “Preacher,” I pant and lick my lips.

“Gia,” he growls, and his big hands grab and knead my ass like he thinks it’s the most perfect ass on the planet and not even a little squishy.

“I want this, Preach. I want you.” It’s not exactly a secret, but the heat in his eyes and the thick rod pressing between my thighs tells me that he’s ready—fucking finally—to give into the heat and chaos and fire swirling around us.
