“I can picture it now,” Mom sighs wistfully, “My husband will fight me, but if he’s too busy, I’ll have the barn and stables painted by a contractor. It will be perfect.”

Everyone agrees.

“We’ll put the horses out to pasture and make sure Doobie is washed to perfection for pictures.”

Lots of nods come from the group.

Wait… Her suggestions sink in, and I glance around at the fading faces. Does no one realize she mentioned our barn, stables, and horses? This is Harley…

A rush of cool air fans over my legs before strong, warm arms snake around my waist. The scent of Major’s soap fills my nostrils, and I snuggle into him. A hand grabs my knee, pulling it up and settling back so his calf weaves with mine. Soft stubble runs along my jaw and throat, warm lips kissing the path.

I link my fingers in his and settle into my pillow.

Subconsciously, every ridge and muscle of his body ripples to mine, pulling me deeper into the dream.

“Say you love me, Julianna,” his rough voice demands, and I smile.

Even in my dreams, he’s bossy.

Then my eyes pop open. I squeeze my hands, and he pulls my earlobe between his teeth.

“Good morning.”

I jump, slamming him back and almost falling off the bed until he catches me by the hips. He hauls me up, positioning us so I’m straddling his lap and he’s against my headboard.

“I’ve missed waking up to you.”

My hands swipe at my face and hair, knowing I must be a mess. I’m not hungover, but the trio and my mom kept the party going when we returned from Harley’s shower.

“Major?” I rasp.

His grin widens, and he tucks my hair behind my ear. “Babe, you have someone else waking you up in your bed, we have a problem.”

“But… but…” I sputter, “my mom.”

“She’s up and making coffee. Told me you had a late night. I took a shower before waking you.”

“She’s making coffee? You took a shower, naked in my house, while my mom was in the other room?”

“I don’t shower in clothes, babe. You know this.”

“Yes! But she doesn’t know I know!”

His beautiful eyes light with hilarity. “She has three children. I doubt she’s fazed by my showering naked.”

“Major!” I wrestle to get away and hear his hiss. It’s then I notice he’s in loose athletic shorts and his erection is pressing into me.

“Stop that!”

“Never with you.”

“Major,” I groan, trying to fall away.

He flinches, and I stop because my core clinches at the bulge.

“You like torture, babe, do it when your mother isn’t three rooms away.”

“You’re here. In my room, with my mama in the house!” I whisper-yell. “She’s probably freaking out.”

“Margo didn’t blink when I let myself in and turned off the alarm.”

I chew on my lip, thinking of what exactly to say. “I’ve never, ummm, we haven’t actually spoken about sleepovers before.”

“Jewls, we’re adults, not to mention you have two older brothers. Trust me when I say this is a non-issue.”

He’s right, I’m acting like a teenager caught making out. “You’re right.”

“Now, can we begin this morning over?” He knifes up, caging me with his arms, and drops his mouth to mine. “Good morning.”

I melt into his kiss, all thoughts flying out of my mind. He ends the kiss too soon, whispering against my lips, “Tell me again, Julianna.”

“I love you, Major.”

“My place or yours tonight, doesn’t matter to me, but I want to hear it over and over while I’m moving inside you.”

My core clenches, and he groans at the pressure. “Or we could make it happen now if you can be quiet.”

“I can’t, I mean, I can’t concentrate knowing she’s a few walls away.”

“I’m inside you, promise you’ll be concentrating.”

“Major.” My voice comes out hoarse and flimsy.

“Jesus.” He blows out a frustrated breath, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and standing. “Go do your thing, and I’ll meet you in the kitchen.”

“What about this?” I shimmy down his body, rolling over his erection.

“I’ll handle it with you out of sight. And do me a favor, put on some shorts under that nightie. It won’t help my cause, seeing you flutter around and knowing what’s under this scrap of silk.”

“I like my nightwear.”

“Babe, it’s fucking fantastic. But throw me a bone.”

“Okay, I’ll throw you a boner.”

I snort at my joke.

“Fuck me, I’m hard as a fucking granite, and she jokes.” He talks to the ceiling.

I back out of his hold and go to the bathroom, swinging my ass intentionally, hearing his rumbles through the closed door. I take my time with my morning routine, slipping into a pair of sleep shorts and my pink robe.

The bed is perfectly made when I exit, and something catches my eye. Major’s gun and holster sit on my nightstand.

Guns don’t frighten me. At thirteen, Dad taught me to fire and clean many models, explaining the respect and power they hold. But seeing Major’s firearm sends a flitty sensation through me. Like it belongs there. It’s natural.
