“My restraint is wavering, Jewls.”

“Ummm, I forgot to bring in pajamas.”

“You don’t need pajamas.”

“Major, I can’t sleep naked.”

“Let me rephrase. You don’t need pajamas because you definitely didn’t forget them. Open the door.”

The panic turns to irritation, realizing he saw my wardrobe when he unpacked our bags. Before I can think of a reply, the knob jiggles and the door thumps open.

“That was locked,” I squeak.

He flicks his fingers, revealing a short, thin metal rod.

“You picked the lock?”

“The restraint wore out.”

“I can’t believe you—” My words die as the fire in his eyes brands my skin, trailing over my body.

“Jesus, fuck.” His voice is thick and gravelly, sending a different burn racing through me. “Had no idea what you had planned for that scrap of material but spent all night picturing you in it.”

His gaze meets mine, and I’m captivated by a smoldering so intense it blisters through my veins.

“Imagined how you’d look, how long I could hold on to my control.”

“You shouldn’t have peeked,” is the only thing that comes to mind.

“It was on top of your things.”

“You shouldn’t have done that. What kind of man unpacks his girlfriend’s clothes?”

“The kind of man who wants her to feel comfortable.”

Damn him!

“What if I hid a toy in my bag?”

“Then I’d have cut the night short hours ago.”

He steps forward and pulls me to him. The scent of his soap and the warmth of his skin surround me, and I notice his hair is damp. “You showered?”

“I did.” His lips skim along my jawline.

The memory of this morning pops into my head. “Did you, ummm, I mean…”

“Thought about it, but knew the real thing was worth waiting for.”

“I can’t. I mean, I thought I could, but your family.”

“Mom and Dad are across the house, and the twins were passed out when I left their bathroom. Why do you think I kept the shots flowing?”

“You wanted your brothers drunk?”

“No, I wanted them shitfaced. Not only will they sleep through a natural disaster, they’ll feel like ass tomorrow.”

“That’s not brotherly.”

“Serves them right for fucking with me.”

“They were—”

“Jewls,” he cuts me off, nibbling gently on my earlobe. “We’re not talking about my brothers anymore.” His hands go to my bare ass and he thrusts forward, giving me a taste of how hard he is.

“We can’t,” I try again with absolutely no conviction.

“Appreciate the outfit, babe, but it’s about to be a casualty.”

“It was a spontaneous choice. I planned to initiate my game of seduction Sunday night.”

“You have no idea, do you?” His fingers curl on the string at my waist and snap it, the tiny thong falling to the floor.

“Idea of what?”

“Since that first night at Tom’s in September has been a game of seduction. You drive me goddamn crazy, winning each time.”

“It didn’t feel like winning.”

My heart hammers in my chest at the change in his expression. It’s the same look that passed over earlier in his driveway. Butterflies take flight in a frenzy.

“I have a lot of time to make up for. There isn’t much I regret in life, but not making my move earlier will always be my burden. As of tonight, you will never question how much I love you.”

With those words, my heart soars. All my resistance shatters, and I lose my will to stand, sinking into him. “You love me?”

“I do.”

“How do you know?”

“Do I need a reason?”

“Outside of family, you are the only man to ever say that to me. How do you know it’s love?”

His eyes transform into an inky blue shade and grow soft. “Because it’s impossible not to love you. The list of reasons is endless and will take me a lifetime to tell you. But outside of my family, no one has ever done what you did for me tonight. The way you lit up, wanting to recognize my recovery and reinstatement. To me, it’s not a big deal, but you made it seem like Christmas.”

His gaze rakes back over my body.

“Seeing you now, it’s better than Christmas.”

He squeezes my hips before lifting me. My legs lock around him, the bulge in his shorts pressing into me. “You owe me.” He kisses along my jawline. “This morning, I was close to getting my first taste of you.”

My insides spasm, and I rock against him. He lays me on the bed, bracing on his elbows, and lowers his mouth to mine. My body reacts, arching into him, giving him control. A hand threads through my hair, slanting my head for better access.

Major’s kisses always put me under a spell. Since that first morning, the instant our mouths connect, something takes over. Tonight, a new sensation floods my system. This is the kiss of a man making a statement.

He loves me.

It’s impossible not to love you.

I meet him stroke for stroke, pouring the same feelings back to him.
