“Boys, you have a long way to go,” Rich snickers. “These women never change.”
“That’s why I’m single.” Ford tips his beer in the air.
All focus goes back to the game.
“Ford! Can you come here? Bring Talon.” Shayla’s voice rings from down the hall.
Ford stands with his beer. “I have two sisters and know this routine. Come on.” Talon follows him with a cocky grin.
A text dings and I read the message from Jewls.
What color suit are you wearing?
Me—Blue
“So, man, hear you two are close to full duty,” Robbie says, glancing between Ace and me.
Word about our medical release spread fast. “Just need psych release. We see her this week.”
“Y’all ready?”
“Fuck yeah. Not excited about losing my nights with Harley, but ready to get back to the streets,” Ace answers with an edge to his tone.
One night with Jewls and I know exactly how he feels.
“And what about you?” Rich directs his question my way.
“What about me? I’m ready.”
“Hear you finally woke up and clued in.”
“You couldn’t help yourself?” My eyes slice to Ace, who’s smirking around the rim of his beer bottle.
“Not like it’s a secret.”
Talon and Ford come back, settling back to watch the game.
“Well?”
Talon shrugs indifferently.
I wait for more, but nothing comes. Ace’s relaxed posture gives off the impression of a man at complete ease. Not the Neanderthal that typically goes insane over anything having to do with Harley.
“The women mention anything about dinner?” Rich pats his stomach. “I could go for a steak.”
“Steak sounds good,” Ford agrees with a knowing smirk.
I go to the kitchen, grab another beer, and lean on the counter, staring down the hall. Ace’s room is tucked away and has complete privacy, and the area is basically soundproof as well. Which has come in handy until this moment.
“He makes Ace look patient,” Talon muses.
“Gotta agree. Boy has it bad,” Rich adds.
“Been there, done that.” Robbie takes a slug of his beer with enjoyment.
“You want your balls attached to your body, don’t think of going back there,” Ford warns.
They all chuckle as my irritation stirs. Fuckers are enjoying the hell out of this.
“Assholes.”
Loud female chatter fills the hallway as the women filter into the room. Ember goes straight into Robbie’s lap.
Amanda sits next to Rich and smiles wide. Something passes between them, and he leans in to kiss her cheek.
Harley, Shayla, Rowan, and Jewls trickle in last, spreading out around the kitchen.
Jewls grabs a cooler from the pantry and tosses it to Shayla, who loads it with bottles of wine. Rowan and Harley pack a bag with plastic cups.
“We’re taking the golf cart to the house,” Harley announces.
“Baby, it only seats four people,” Ace relays what I’m thinking.
“That’s okay, we’ll pile in.”
“Rich and I saw the progress yesterday,” Amanda states.
A week ago, this would have been a regular thing. However, today, it adds to my irritation.
“Jewls?”
“Hmmm?” She scoops ice in the cooler, not looking at me.
I wait as silence falls on the room, all eyes turned to us. She finally glances up and notices the attention.
“What?”
“Can I speak to you?”
“About what?”
“Girl, he’s asking, but that wasn’t really a question.” Shayla prods her forward.
She narrows her eyes but doesn’t speak as I grab her hand and lead us down the hall. When we get to my room, she stops dead, twisting her hand free. “I told you not to pull this caveman act.”
My arm jets out, circling her waist and yanking her close.
“Major—” her voice drowns out and any protests die when my mouth closes over hers. She sinks into me, letting out a little whimper as my tongue sweeps through.
I press my hands to the small of her back, bending her back and delving deeper. Only one night with her and I’m addicted to her taste. My brain circuits, warning that my control is slipping. Slowly, I break away, skimming my lips from corner to corner. “Next time, I won’t give a shit who’s around when I want a kiss.”
“You wanted a kiss?”
“Don’t care who watches, but thought maybe you’d be embarrassed in front of Rich and Amanda.”
“You wanted a kiss?” she repeats breathlessly.
“Yeah.”
She stares at me with bright eyes, as if I’ve told her the secrets of the world.
“Jesus, Jewls. I don’t know what to take from the way you’re looking at me.”
“No one has ever told me that before.”
Jealousy curls low in my gut. “That’s because you’ve been with fucking idiots.”
“Fucking idiots,” she says low.
“Got my first taste of you that morning in your bedroom, you wearing that skimpy pink robe, pissed as hell and throwing attitude.”
“Major—“
“It’s only gotten better from there. Had you all last night and this morning. Still wasn’t enough. It will never be enough.”
“No one has—”
“Don’t finish that sentence. If it was possible, I’d wipe every one of the guys in your past from your mind.”
She chews on her bottom lip. “You are doing a good job of it.” Her soft admission sets my pulse soaring.
