Larry hands me back Rachel’s phone and rummages through her purse.

I hand the phone to Iain. “Here, give this back to her. Tell her if she wants her business shit, she can talk to Larry.”

He pockets the phone. “I’ll take care of Rachel. You have nothing to worry about. Jerry’s waiting to take you to the hangar.”

Nodding, I prepare to push on Rebecca’s number and look back at Larry. “Send me that video she has of Raven and me, please.”

Poor Larry turns red, but nods. I grin. I’m a sick fuck, and the thought of being able to watch my Lolita come, on my phone, Christ, the mere thought of it is making me hard.

“Thanks, man.” I walk out and press on Rebecca’s number.

“Good morning, Mr. Powers.”

“Morning, Becca. I need you to give all my cases to Mike.”

“Is everything okay?” Her typically calm voice disappears.

“Probably not.” Grinning, I slide into the back of the vehicle. “Please make arrangements for me to stay at Puente in Marbella, and I want the suite with the sea view. After that, I need you to cancel my wedding and alert all guests.”

“Oh my God.” Her voice grows louder.

“Becca, I’m leaving you in charge. I want daily accounts on everything, but as of right now, I’m not taking any cases, and I don’t know when I’m coming back.” I look out the window, watching everything blur past me.

“I just, okay, Mr. Powers. Is there anything else?”

“Yes, give yourself a raise, and I’ll touch base when I land.”

“Thank you.” Her voice cracks. “This is shocking. You love your practice.”

“I do, but we both know I’ve been struggling. I need to get away. I always said if found something I loved more than the law, I would go after it.” As Jerry turns into the hangar, my pilot and a flight attendant are waiting.

“It’s Raven, isn’t it?” Rebecca’s calm voice is back as I hear her typing on the computer.

“I need to go. Also, I have Rachel being watched, but if she drops by or you hear anything at all, you get ahold of Iain.”

“Oh, don’t you worry. She won’t be getting by my desk. I’m already canceling everything for the wedding.”

“Shit. One more thing.” Getting out of the Tesla, I nod at my crew. “I need you to find someone to get me a whole new wardrobe. I need everything, suits and casual. I’m getting on the plane in sweats and a T-shirt.”

“Not a problem, Mr. Powers.”

“You’re in charge.” I grin, and it’s my first real smile in more than two weeks.

JETT

“Can I get you anything else, Mr. Powers?” Payton, my flight attendant, smiles at me, her invitation obvious in her tone.

I smile back. “Yes, another Bombay Sapphire and tonic.” I swivel my chair to look out the window. The blue sky is all that greets me, and I relax into the leather seat.

I rarely use my jet, and at certain times I’ve thought of getting rid of it. I can’t very well be an environmentalist and fly around polluting our skies. But today, I am grateful to have it.

“Here you are.” She sets my drink down, along with some Marcona almonds. Her blouse is open enough to give me a tease of her breast.

“Thanks.” I grin, stretching my legs out. “How much longer?”

“Two more hours.” She cocks her head at me.

I reach for my drink. Peyton’s a smart girl. She’ll figure out I’m not gonna fuck her.

“Call if you want me.” She walks back to the kitchen area by the cockpit. I take a sip and let the refreshing flavors wake me up.

I actually slept. I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve gotten more than four hours of sleep in a night.

After boarding, I went straight to the bedroom and slept for a solid seven hours. Didn’t dream; just slept. Got up, took a shower, and here I sit, with a cocktail.

Fucking free. I grin and look over at the large TV, where a soccer game is on the screen.

My phone vibrates, alerting me that I’m getting several emails. For the first time ever, though, I don’t check them. They all can wait.

Christ, what should my plan be? I can’t just take her, lock her in my room with me until she submits.

Yeah, not an option, even though I want to.

I might have to do some groveling. My lips curve up—I’ve never had to grovel a day in my life. But I’ve also never felt like this before.

Love.

Rachel’s spiteful face appears in my mind as I replay her words. “I saw you with her. I watched the way you kissed her, looked at her. You’re in love with her, and you don’t even know it.”

“Shit.” I bring the drink to my lips and take two big swigs.

Is that what this is?

Love?

Pansy-ass word, which I don’t ever use, unless I’m talking about my mom, dad, or brother. Yet here I am in my private jet, chasing after this woman who’s destroyed my peace, ripped my heart open, and made me question my very beliefs.
