Raven laughs behind me, so I stretch my legs and sit beside her on the sofa. She immediately tucks herself under my arm.
I stare at the castle our daughters are working on while Ryan sits across from us, frowning at whatever he’s playing on his phone.
The castle is a mosaic of deep reds, light pink, and white. Its arched doorway has a heart-shaped doorknob. There are battlements, archways, and tiny stained-glass windows—all pink. At one of the towers’ peaks, Riley adds a pink flag that says “PINK” in big, bold letters.
Guarding the building are their Barbie dolls and stuffed animals.
“No,” Raven tells me.
“What?”
“I know what you’re thinking, okay? I’ve seen the same look on your face when you asked me about my dream house.”
I chuckle and kiss her temple. “What am I thinking, love?”
“You’re already planning how to build a life-size version of that.”
I can’t help it. I burst out laughing.
“Rowan, you are not building a castle with a moat and drawbridge.”
“They’ll love it.”
“They will? Oh god, you’re already set on doing it, aren’t you?”
“I may have some plans in my head. Might talk to my engineers and architects in the morning.”
“Oh, you’re impossible.”
“But you love me anyway.”
“Ugh. Yes, yes. I love you.”
“And I love you.”
The End. Thanks for reading!
