One good thing about all of the security Lucifer has working for us is that they’re all ex-military of some variety and understand things like a sixth sense of danger.

I can feel it in my skin, the way it prickles up against my shirt.

But what is it?

As soon as I park near the elevators, I pull my helmet off again and slap it down on the handle of the bike.

Checking my phone as I get in the elevator, I look at my messages.

Simon: Straight to Lucifer’s office.

Simon: We’ve got news.

Nodding my head at the message, I want to grumble about him even needing to tell me where I should be heading. Especially since I called the meeting in the first place.

As the elevator rises to the top floor, I call the man on security duty at my house.

“Jacob,” he says.

“Anything out of the ordinary happen?” I ask.

“She went out. Johnathan and Simon’s wives welcomed her and they all went for a walk together around neighborhood.”

“Was there anything I should know about?”

“Only that they’re planning to go shopping this weekend, and by the sounds of it, it’s going to be expensive,” he says with a heartless chuckle.

“Wonderful,” I growl. “Keep a close eye out. Something’s afoot.”

“Anything specific?” he asks more serious.

“No, but that doesn’t mean something isn’t out there,” I say.

Pushing the disconnect button, I move out of the elevator as soon as the doors open.

Shopping with the other wives…

I should have figured that would happen eventually. I should have known that she would meet them. While I’m quite sure I can afford anything my dear angel’s heart desires, I still get a weird twitch on the right side of my body, close to where my wallet sits.

How. Odd.

Am I becoming domesticated?

Will I be out mowing the lawn next in white tennis shoes, a pair of khakis, and a polo shirt? Maybe a baseball cap with the local home team logo on it?

Fucking hardly.

I have money for lawn boys.

Though if they look at my wife, I’ll fucking gut them like fish and smear myself with their blood right before I fuck her senseless.

Moving through the hall, my feet clap hard on the tile floors. It’s almost like each step I take matches the pounding of my heart.

Pulling the Glock out of my hip holster, I ratchet back the slide before slamming it back home. Holstering it, I’m tempted to walk through the doors with it in my hand, giving me some small comfort.

Walking into the office, I see Andrew, Simon, and Lucifer already there with smiles all around.

Whatever is going on in the back of my head isn’t in here.

“Jude.” Lucifer beams at me with his usual happy drawl. “How is married life treating you?”

“She’s going shopping with Meredith and Beth sometime soon,” I say and watch as Simon’s eyes widen.

Lucifer looks to Simon and frowns. “Feeling indigestion already?”

Simon growls to Lucifer, “It won’t be just the three of them. They’re already planning on it being a father daycare day.”

A loud stomping of booted feet behind me sounds the arrival of Johnathan.

When he stops into the middle of the room, he looks around. “What I miss?”

“The wives are all planning a wonderful shopping day amongst themselves.” Lucifer smiles. “And they will be leaving the kids with us.”

Shrugging his shoulders, Johnathan says, “Sounds good to me. We can all meet up at Gabriel’s place to hang out. He just finished building that brick oven out on his porch. He’s been talking to me about trying his hand at making some fire roasted pizzas.”

Lucifer nods his head. “I think it’s a good idea. Let’s set that up.”

“Fire. Roasted. Pizza. With kids all around us.” Simon sighs loudly.

“Cheer up, man,” Andrew says. “I’ve got the Band-aids and shit in the car in case there’s any booboos.”

Shaking his head at Andrew, Simon looks to me. “Before we go over our news, you give us yours.”

“Coss has been talking to someone named Daniel Raskatov. He’s a former Bratva counterpart, I guess,” I say and look to Lucifer. “Said it was during your father’s reign.”

“Hmm, Simon?” Lucifer asks and there’s a dangerous undercurrent to his tone. “How was Coss able to get a hold of any of his former contacts without us knowing?”

Simon is already typing and using his mouse as he looks up to Lucifer. “More than likely a burner phone. Someone must have gotten it for him since we monitor his movements heavily.”

“It was one of his harem,” I say as soon as the thought enters my mind. “His faithful little flock of old ladies would do anything for him.”

Everyone stops to look at me like I just said something wrong.

Then Lucifer erupts with laughter. “That would be the perfect way for him to get the phone.”

Nodding his head with Lucifer, Simon says, “I agree. I’ll monitor all the cellular traffic coming from the church and rectory. We’ll let him keep the phone, thinking we don’t have it monitored.”
