Daring to risk turning my back on him, I walk with more purpose.

I expect him to pounce on me at any second and say it was just a fucking joke.

What I don’t expect is for him to say my name when I finally reach the door.

“Eden?”

He knows my fucking name?

I spin around in fear to see him standing where I left him in the shadows of the alley.

“It was a pleasure to meet you.” His white teeth flash in the darkness as he grins at me. “I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow.”

The shapely ass running away from me has my cock so fucking hard I can feel it trying to rip a hole through the fabric of my pants. A dull ache throbs in my shoulder where she bit me, and it seems like that ache runs straight to my balls.

Now, I’ve never had a fetish for feet, but even her delicate foot begs for me to do blasphemous things to her angelic body.

Was it smart of me to let a witness to the crime I just committed flee?

Absolutely not.

But who can blame me?

Her lips were far too inviting to kill her so soon.

Which is exactly what I would have to do if anyone else found out she saw what we were doing in the back with Rodney.

Why did I let her go, though?

Why would I let my prey flee like that?

I have to question my own sanity. I have no good reason to trust her. I have no guarantees that she won’t go running straight to her phone to call the police.

Am I a lunatic?

Yes, but I feel it deep down inside me that she won’t run and she won’t tattletale on us. She’ll come back tomorrow to work her shift. She’ll worry about her child and her own safety.

She also knows she’ll be hunted down if she doesn’t come in. Nothing about me calling her by her name was accidental. I know who she is, and she knows I do.

But to be honest to my truest self?

I want the thrill of the hunt.

The voices inside my head plead for the hunt. Even if there’s no killing, they need to live again.

When I get her, and I will get her, I’ll bite her neck when I mount her, just like so many animals in the wild do.

She’ll fight me.

She’ll kick and scream, and I do love the idea of that.

Then she’ll whimper and moan.

She’ll submit and be mine.

It’s only a matter of time, really. And if I had taken her today? She wouldn’t have appreciated all that I will do for her in the days to come.

Bending down to pick her trashy wig off the dirty concrete, I cram it into my pants pocket. Fuck, what I wouldn’t give to rip the rest of that outfit off her.

Barely opaque dress, white wings, and she did have a halo on her pretty little head before I ripped it from her.

Searching around in the dim light, I spot the now broken metal circle against the side of the building across the alley.

Hmph.

Snatching it up, my lips smile deep and wide for the very first time in months.

I broke the poor girl’s halo.

Walking back into the club through the emergency exit, I can tell the mood in my body has shifted so significantly that I have to force myself to remove the glee from my face.

Everything in me vibrates at such a high frequency, I have to try my fucking hardest to look serious when I see both Uriel and Nathaniel grumpily facing me.

I’m not sure I quite succeed with removing my emotions from my eyes, though.

“Next time you want to act like a Civil War surgeon, Jude,” Nathaniel grouches at me. “I’d prefer a heads up. This sack of shit could have bled out with such sloppy work.”

Grinning, I look down at the sallow-skinned fuck sweating so profusely I’m not sure where the piss begins and the sweat ends.

“Ah, my apologies, Doctor,” I say to Nathaniel.

He gives me the bird.

Uriel and Nathaniel have been around the block long enough with us to know what we’re doing here tonight. It’s a simple check things out, put the fear of the Devil in the employees, and ensure our presence is known.

But since I have the most seniority, I need to reinforce our role in Rodney’s life from now on.

I smirk at the recently cauterized stump. Nathaniel does good work.

“Never really was fond of the smell of burning flesh until I went to Kentucky. I seem to have lost any real ability to be bothered by it now,” I say then flick my index finger hard against the stump.

The wail that comes from behind the gag they shoved in Rodney’s mouth is almost as appealing as Eden’s musical voice.

Looking up at Uriel, I see a deep frown on his handsome face. “Did I say something wrong?”
