Gripping the steering wheel hard, I release the brake and move my foot back to the gas pedal. “I’m just a little rusty…”

Jude

Simon is screaming something from the back room, but over the hail of bullets and small explosions of glass and steel, I can’t make it out.

“What’s he yelling about?” I shout to Johnathan.

“Something about the cellular cutting out just now,” Johnathan yells back to me before he starts pushing his table towards the door of the building.

Well fuck. What calvary we have is either going to be coming late to the party or not at all.

Putting my shoulder to the table, I shove it up to blockade the door, and then move quickly to get another table.

Shoving that one on top of the other table, I look over to Johnathan and motion to the back. “Anyone hit?”

“That Russian fucker got hit in the kneecap from a ricochet,” he grunts. “Lucifer got grazed across his thigh.”

“Is it serious?” I ask.

“No. Andrew is taking care of it.”

Nodding my head, I slowly move over to a small broken window and peek out.

I probably shouldn’t have because seeing at least eight vehicles out there not counting ours is not a welcoming sight.

“Were we able to get much from the wives before we lost the ability to call out?” I ask.

The bullets coming at us from the vehicles have slowed down, but not completely.

Another long burst of bullets spew through the window I was just looking out of.

“Only that Gabriel is on site and trying to get shit taken care of,” he says.

I check both magazines on my belt. “So, we’ve been hit at two locations.”

“Yeah, and we ain’t got fuck all for ammunition, options, or time.” Johnathan hunkers back down as another round of fire comes at us. “They’re pressing forward.”

The voices in my head scream to find an exit, get to Eden and go on the run. To get as far as fucking possible from any possible danger to her and my son.

But I can’t do that.

I can’t get out of here if they won’t stop fucking shooting at us.

Moving to the window, I look down at the large pool of blood staining the concrete.

Thaddeus.

How many more?

None, the voices rage inside of me.

No more of my brothers will die here today.

Poking my head up, I snap out a couple of rounds at the closest car and watch as a body falls to the ground.

Head shot.

But it’s going to take a lot more of those and pure luck if we want to make it out of this.

Ducking down, I wait for the expected barrage of fire and move as soon as it starts.

Popping up again, I shoot at a man unleashing a full mag of bullets from an assault rifle at the spot I was just shooting from.

Two more shots from me and he’s down, but I don’t think he’s dead.

I hit him in the shoulder and the side of the neck. Unless I hit an artery, I doubt he’s down permanently.

Let us out, the little darlings in my chest beg and plead.

Let us do what we do best, they needle at me.

Release us and she’ll be safe.

One down dead and the second hurt for now… but with each pull of the trigger, I can feel the fire burning deeper inside me.

Rage and fury like nothing I’ve ever felt before sweeps across my eyes as I scream at the top of my lungs.

A war cry like no other.

“I’ll fucking kill every single one of you stupid, wretched, smelling cunts!” bellows out from my throat as froth and spittle fly from my lips.

Andrew comes charging up from the back with a slower Lucifer at his side. I don’t see Simon coming up yet but it won’t be long.

“This fucking sucks,” Andrew growls during a lull in the firing.

Simon dashes into the room and fires a clip of shots through the warehouse window.

“Two down,” he says as he slides up beside me.

Lucifer looks down at Thaddeus’s body and his face goes stone cold. “They’ll all die for this, and who ever sold us out will wish for death.”

“Uriel and Amanda are supposed to be here any minute now,” Simon grunts. Then he stands up and shoots five times before ducking down. “That’s two more down, at least.”

Moving to a different spot to shoot from, I take another one out before I dive back down for cover.

“What about James, Gabriel, and Doc?” Johnathan asks.

“On their way once they’ve secured the houses,” Lucifer says. “But with the cells jammed, there’s no way of knowing.”

Not enough time and not enough men here to hold out for long.

Not if we don’t do something.

“Oh boys!” a heavily accented woman’s voice calls out to us during another lull. “We’ve got you surrounded!”

Standing up, I don’t have a clear shot on the woman yelling at us.
