“Are you okay?” Eve asks, sitting beside me as Beckett starts cleaning up.

“I’ll live,” I mumble.

“I’ve got some pretty good pain meds left over from Adan’s surgeries,” Ramona says, handing me some tablets. “Take them, they’ll help.”

I take them without bothering to ask what they are and shove them into my mouth, swallowing them. I don’t really give a crap if they’re good for me or not, right now, I just need to be alone. I struggle to stand, and Adan comes over to help me.

“I need to shower,” I say. “I can’t take my damned clothes off because I can’t lift my arms. Who is going to help me?”

“I will,” Becket says, his voice gruff.

“Ah, don’t you think it should be one of us?” Eve asks him, eyes wide.

“Look, I don’t care who it is,” I say, turning and hobbling toward the shower.

It’s Beckett who follows me in. I stand in front of him and he takes a step closer, taking hold of my shirt. I can tell he’s uncomfortable, and I’m damned glad about it. He deserves to feel a little uncomfortable after what happened tonight. He carefully pulls my shirt off and then helps me shuffle out of my shorts. When I’m down to a bra and undies, he stops and his eyes meet mine.

“I can’t shower with these on,” I say, my gaze not wavering from his.

He steps closer and reaches around behind me, his fingers finding my bra strap. I suck in a deep breath at the feeling of his skin touching mine and him being this close. His body next to mine is huge, and he’s so muscled and gorgeous it makes my heart do a funny little flip. I hold my breath, scared that if I breathe, he’ll notice just how much this is affecting me.

He unclips my bra and steps back, watching as it falls off my arms. His gaze is so intense it makes it hard for me to care that I’m half naked in front of him. The way he looks at my breasts has my soul sparking to life. He reaches for my panties, taking them in his fingers and slowly lowering them down over my legs. I keep hanging onto my breath, even though my lungs burn. As the material slips down, revealing my pussy, I close my eyes, terrified to look.

I step out of my panties and then dare to peek. He’s still squatting down in front of me, his eyes on my flesh, on the scar my body holds, no doubt. He looks up at me and god damned if I don’t want to grab fistfuls of his hair and slam his face between my legs. He slowly stands and when he does, his face is only inches from mine. For a moment, for a blissful moment, I’m certain he’s going to kiss me. There is a look in his eyes that I’ve never seen before, not with me anyway. I bite my lip and my heart races as his eyes remain locked onto mine. I pray, to any god listening, that he’ll lean in and kiss me the way I so need to be kissed right now.

“Let me know if you need help,” he growls, in a low husky voice.

Then he turns and walks out, leaving me standing there, butt naked, watching him go.

God dammit.

God. Fucking. Dammit.

“Will you stay with me?” I ask Beckett later that night when everyone has gone.

I’m terrified of being left alone out here, guards or not. Riggs has ordered three men to stand watch at all times now, but that doesn’t mean I want to sleep by myself tonight. I’m scared and I’m not afraid to admit it. Rocco means business and if I don’t give him what he wants, very soon, I’ll be dead.

Beckett pauses, phone in his hand, keys in the other. “You want me to stay?”

“Yeah,” I say, trying not to sound as scared as I feel. “Please.”

He glances down at his phone, and I know he’s got somewhere else to be. He’s going to her, to see her, to fuck her again, but right now ... I need him here with me. He might hate me, but he’s also the only person right now that I trust to take care of me.

“Give me a minute,” he murmurs, walking out of the warehouse.

I manage to get myself to bed, sliding in under the covers as the tablets Ramona gave me continue to kick in. They’ve been making me progressively more and more drowsy in the last hour but now, it feels like they’re really doing their job. My head is a little spinny, and by the time Beckett gets back in the room, I could swear I’m high and no longer in pain.

Beckett takes off his shirt and gets into the bed beside me.
