“That way is fine.”

“And where would you like to dine tonight?”

“My balcony.” The increase of my internal temperatures has me unbuttoning my jacket to slip it off. “I’ll arrange everything myself if you could just have the items on this list,” I retrieve the folded piece of paper from my pants pocket, “as well as the dinner items prepared and ready in my room by the end of the workday.”

Glee instantly pumps throughout his expression. “You made me a list?”

“A detailed one.”

His grin ignites mine during the taking of the written object I knew would brighten his day.

“I’ve got it!” Dae enthusiastically shouts at the same time she barges into the kitchen. “I know how to counter the last toxin in her system!” She frantically waves around a piece of paper, wet, braided hair bouncing different directions because of the excited movement. “I figured it out!” More victorious hand motions are executed. “Magitek thought they were clever by using essentially a magical version of tetrodotoxin, but what they didn’t consider or take the time to calculate is that a pure orc’s metabolism doesn’t work like other creatures. They can self-neutralize! However, in order for their body to do that, it has to know what they’re offsetting. Meaning if you’ve been pumping them with something magically acidic, you don’t pump them with something magically basic, you pump with the non-magical version of the acidic thing to trigger the reaction in their body to recognizing what needs to be balanced so it can create the chemicals within itself to establish a healthy statis, which is also why brainwashing them is ridiculously difficult. Due to their bodies natural response to toxins, you essentially have to confuse their system before you can penetrate it to control it. My medical hypotheses is that the doctor—or mad scientist I should say—responsible for Dai’s mental imprisonment didn’t believe anyone would try to pick the lock on his combination of crazy, so he didn’t consider creating a fail safe for when someone—like a sleepless, pregnant, dedicated doctor who wants to see her fate-in-law reunited with her long lost mother—came along and decided to pick said lock until it opened.”

For Dragons Sake the Awaker is equally brilliant and bizarre. She’s not my type, but I understand why my baby brother can’t get enough of her.

Mate.

Yeah, thank you, Captain Apparent. Any other obvious facts you’d like to announce?

Ours.

No. Ours is the one probably putting on a naked Patti LaBelle or En Vogue performance we’re not privileged to see for the second morning in a row for denying her dick in the way she wants.

Need.

Give it a fucking rest, dragonhole. I know we need her. I’m trying to do right by her this way.

“Give Dai a shit ton of puffer fish for an early lunch and she should be talking like a normal creature—sans the last of their brainwashing bullshit—by dinner,” Dae excitedly insists.

Morning.

Tonight, we’ll be bonding.

Questioning at the intense level can probably wait until after we’ve unified our families.

Mate.

Again, with saying the obvious shit, Platinum.

Need.

I know we need her in our lives, and tonight she will physically feel that shit.

“Lady Draak,” Gene cautiously begins, “are you referring to a literal amount of feces or is this another idiom I do not understand?”

Fiery feelings have me undoing my cuffs to release the rising heat. “It would be best to give Gene an exact measurement rather than an Awaker reference.”

She flashes us a small guilty cringe. “Sorry! I’ve been forgetting that a lot of lately. I blame the cute little thing I’m growing in my belly.”

Dear Great Ones, I cannot wait until Cami is doing the same.

Surely, we’ll have at least three like my own father.

Hm.

Hopefully we keep a better eye on them than he did us when we were first learning to fly.

I’m pretty sure A.D.’s wing still has that dent.

Mate.

She’ll be down soon enough. Relax.

Need.

“Genie Gene, please, serve Dai about a pound of liver, ovaries, and intestines from the Tetraodontidae family of fish.”

“Yes, Lady Draak,” he politely replies. “Anything else?”

She cheerfully shakes her head.

Almost as suddenly as she appeared, now so does Z with small silver puffs being expelled in an unhappy nature. “Little Tails!”

Her eyes widen in guilt and surprise alike.

“You cannot,” he struggles to calm his breath, “just go,” more attempts to stop the shimmery gas from flooding the kitchen occur, “running off,” his hands steady his frame, “in the middle of a bath.” Z pushes his damp locks away from his forehead. “And you can’t not tell me where you’re going!”

“What’s with all the yelling?” A.D. inquires upon his entering of the room with his Fated Mate wrapped around his side.

“Yeah, I thought we were the only I Know What You Did Last Summer impersonators in the house,” Ana playfully pokes on an eyebrow waggle.

The Sleeper reference causes my forehead to momentarily crinkle in confusion.
