I wander back to the living room, and Jessie has moved from the kitchen counter to the couch. She looks content sitting there in her comfortable PJs with cartoon dogs on them with some reality show blaring on the TV. She still has the ice cream in her arms and is going to town on the carton with a happy smile on her face. Usually, I’d be right there beside her but now I have big plans. Boy, how things have changed.

“I’m heading out,” I say with a smile.

Jessie twists in the couch to look over at me.

“Okay. Have lots of fun, do things I wouldn’t do, be glamorous, stay gorgeous, and, no matter what, be yourself.” Jessie is such a trip, but those words of encouragement help.

I shake my head, silently laughing at her antics, before saying my final goodbye and leaving her to her evening. With a deep breath, I walk down the stairs and then step out into the streets of New York. It’s dusk now, and the sidewalk shimmers as hope fills the air.

Is this really happening? Do I actually have a date with my hot pastors? Still smiling, I hop on the subway and take it uptown with excitement coursing through my veins.

I wonder what tonight will be like. I’m excited to see their apartment because it’ll tell me a lot about them. Do they have cat figurines everywhere? Or posters of women in bikinis? I’ve been starting to realize that most of the things I know about Jordan and Jason, I read on the internet, and the internet doesn’t have the details that matter. Their biographies are all about where they went to school and their professional qualifications, whereas I want to know what gets these guys going.

After all, Jason and Jordan are still pretty enigmatic to me, and tonight’s going to be a window into their lives. Yes, their personalities have been on full display during church, but now we’re getting into the down and dirty and I’d like to know so much more.

Suddenly, the train screeches to a halt and I sit up straight. This is it! I get off at the stop, heading back aboveground. Come to think of it, their apartment isn’t too far from the church actually. That makes sense since the church is their baby, and you never want to be too far from your baby.

I walk slowly to their building and press the appropriate bell. A loud buzz sounds, and with slow feet, I take the stairs to their door. Oh my god, it’s a first date and I’m nervous. I don’t know what’s about to happen, but I’m also excited beyond measure.

Taking a deep breath, my knuckles rap on the door. It sounds like my future calling, and I try to quell my sense of excitement.

“Come in,” rumbles a deep voice.

I try the handle and the door is unlocked, so I open it to find Jason and Jordan both inside, working in the kitchen. Their apartment is warm, probably from the heat from the stove.

“Hi,” I say shyly, lingering by the door frame feeling a little weird about just walking into their place. I know they invited me over, and I know we’re sort-of seeing one another, but I’m still a bit hesitant around them. I wonder if these flustered feelings will ever go away, or if I’m always going to have butterflies in my stomach.

At least their apartment looks comfortable from where I’m standing. There’s a lot of natural light coming in through the windows, and they have high ceilings which are much coveted in New York. There’s also a good amount of space, balanced with just the right of furniture.

“Come inside,” Jordan motions. I take a few steps in and close the door behind me, so that the three of us are alone. Our eyes meet, and electricity sizzles in the air. Holy cow, this is really happening. We’re about to have a first date and I’m shaking with nervous anticipation.

Of course, the men look completely confident and competent in the kitchen. Jason and Jordan are in comfortable slacks and sweaters, emphasizing those broad chests and long, athletic legs. Their black hair is brushed back and those blue eyes gleam, even as they stir a pot bubbling on the stove.

Moreover, we’re barely two seconds into this evening, and I’m already hot and bothered. My dress suddenly feels tight and I feel like I can’t breathe. I force myself to take a deep breath. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it through the next few hours without burning up.

“Hey sweetheart. We’re not quite finished with dinner yet, but make yourself at home,” Jason lets me know. “Sit wherever you want.”

Jordan merely grins at me, still stirring as I walk over to the couches, looking around a little. It’s gorgeous and homey at once. There’s a big beige couch in front of a flat-sreen with a beige Barcalounger angled off to the side.
