"I’m getting more punch, you want anything?" I ask Sam.

"No thanks,” she sings while winking at Brandon Landon in the corner. “I’m going to hang out here for a while,” she says while trailing one finger lingeringly over her bust.

I roll my eyes again and head for the punch table before helping myself to some of the pink liquid. I wonder what’s in this thing? Grapefruit juice definitely, but did someone add vodka too? I sniff my glass, but of course, vodka is odorless so there’s no smell of alcohol. Then, a massive form appears at my elbow. To be honest, I felt him before I saw him, and sure enough, it’s my lover.

"Well, well, don’t you look sexy tonight,” Ed says in a low tone so that no one can hear but me. “You look gorgeous, honey.”

I turn and smile at the handsome man.

“Thank you. You look nice yourself, Mr. Sterling,” I breathe, eating him up with my eyes. It’s true too because Ed’s wearing a dark suit that highlights those broad shoulders, as well as a white shirt showing off the bronzed skin of his neck. His black hair is brushed back and those blue eyes gleam, even in the darkness of the gym.

“Yes, but those shoes are meant to be worn wrapped around my waist in the bedroom, sweetheart. You know that," he continues.

I smile saucily at Ed. "Is that right?"

"It is. And I can prove it to you if you want a demonstration."

I laugh.

"Oh really? How’s chaperoning going, by the way?"

He smirks.

"It has its up and downs. No doubt you’ve noticed half of your classmates are so drunk they’re barely functioning."

"Yeah, I have noticed. One of them is related to you, by the way. Are you going to say anything?"

Ed shrugs.

"No because me and the other chaperones have decided to let it slide for a bit. We’ll make sure the drunks don’t drive drunk of course, but it’s still early in the night. We’ll turn a blind eye for a little while at least.”

I giggle.

“Yeah, let them sober up a bit before they go home. But actually, Ed, I wanted to talk to you about something.”

The older man’s eyebrows go up.

“Now? Here? The music’s so loud, honey. Do you want to wait until we get home?”

I smile mischievously.

“No, now is good.”

He grins while reading my mind.

“Okay sure, sweetheart. Should we find an empty classroom? Would that work?"

I smile sunnily.

"Sure. How about the second classroom on the left after going through those doors?” I say, pointing to the exit. “It’s room 247, Mrs. Anton’s art studio. You go first and I’ll wait five or ten minutes and join you?"

He nods and winks.

"Great honey. Got it. I’ll be waiting."

Then he strides off as I look around, trying to appear innocent. I help myself to some more appetizers and check the clock. Great. One minute has passed. But I try to calm my pounding heart because I haven’t told Ed about my pregnancy yet, and maybe this is the time. Then again, I do want to get some nookie and a darkened classroom seems about right.

I look around and see Sam laughing with a bunch of the girls we know. I’m glad we came together because she’ll always liven things up. Then, I turn to look at the posse of jocks in the corner and sure enough, Corey’s in the middle being congratulated by his buddies. Ugh, he’s so gross. His crown is slipping down the right side of his head and his eyes are half closed, probably from alcohol. He’s standing still, but his body is swaying ominously to the left. He’s really drunk and frankly, looks like the court jester, and not the Prom King.

But then my eyes flit to the clock on the wall again, and I nod. Enough time has passed for me to make my departure. Putting my drink down, I slip out of the noisy gymnasium and into the hallway before darting to a door on the left. My heart’s fluttering as my body softens with anticipation because the man I love is inside, and I have important news to relay.

I place my hand on the doorknob but before entering, I steal one last look towards the gym. Muffled music blasts from the heavy doors and I can see sparkling lights through the window in the heavy metal slabs, but there’s no one in the hallway. It seems everyone’s having fun doing their own thing and no one’s even wondering where I am, which is perfect.

I giggle at the idea of what I’m about to do because it’s so naughty that I’m already enjoying myself. Of course, Mr. Sterling and I have already crossed a lot of boundaries but still. Now, we’re on school grounds and this feels particularly taboo.

Then again, maybe I’m a prude. The girls in my class talk about different places couples make love, and I’ve heard about the most far-out settings, including the dressing rooms of department stores, in their car in the middle of a busy parking lot, or waist high in a lake. But I’ve never heard of a school classroom while Prom rages outside. I’m nervous, but the more antsy I get, the more turned on I become, and the more I want to do this.
