I catch her eyes following my wrist, and it clicks. She’s been glancing at my watch a few times already.

“Got someplace else to be?” I ask, breaking the silence after we end up right where we started, except without clothes this time.

Her hotter and wetter than ever, and me? Well, I’ve been ready for Jade since the second I laid eyes on her.

She winces and makes an apologetic face.

“I didn’t want to spoil the moment,” she confesses. “But my mom…she said I have to be home by ten,” Jade murmurs, looking like someone just tipped a bucket of ice water over her at the mention of the word ‘mom.’ I can’t help but kind of feel the same way.

It’s one thing for me and Jade to hit it off; as I said, it’s destiny more than anything else.

But there’s going to be more than just a little fallout once her mom finds out; I can feel my desire for Jade as much as I can.

I try to see it from her mom’s perspective for a second. Just one second, but I’m already overprotective of Jade.

I don’t want her to go home.

She belongs with me now.

“What do you want to do?” I ask her, always hating it when fun things have to get serious but also trying to sound diplomatic. Mature.

Jade’s an adult, and she can make up her mind about what she wants.

“I want to stay here with you,” she groans, clutching at my chest and nuzzling my neck again. But I can sense the change in her mood already.

Tense. Worried.

Everything she was before today on a regular basis, I’m guessing.

I go quiet for a while, thinking.

Thinking of what’s best for Jade long and short term and reminding myself that this is our day one.

We’ve got forever ahead of us, so why get hung up on having to take her home, even if I know deep down she only belongs by my side?

“C’mon,” I finally say, shifting myself to get up and urging her with a smile to do the same.

“If you’ve got to be home by ten, then we have some stuff to go over,” I inform her, glancing over to the desk.

The spilled papers, the banks of screens. Complete and in-progress hardware projects lined up against the far wall out past the office.

Dozens of power-on and stand-by lights blink at me through the glass.

Jade catches on that I mean we could and probably should go over some stuff she came down here to look at.

The things I’ll need her help with if she’s serious about working with me.

“I think I’ve already got plenty of your stuff all over me,” she says in a sarcastic tone, stretching out her sweater and reminding me just how strong an effect she has on me.

We both end up laughing. I think it’s a look that suits her, painted with my seed, and I tell her so.

Although next time I don’t want her in a sweater. And next time it won’t be painted on her chest.

But we both stop chuckling once it’s also clear she can’t go home spray painted with my baby batter.

Her look shifts from laughter to worry again until I let her know we have closets full of promotional hoodies, sweats, and stuff she can change into.

Our own brand, but loads of other goodies from our partner suppliers.

“There’s a halfway decent shower and bathroom you can use to freshen up,” I add, remembering that there’s also a big bathtub as soon as I say it.

And her mom wants her home by ten, remember?

Maybe the tub can wait.

“That’d be better than me going home like this, a change of clothes, I mean,” she says and makes a face before I lift her up by her hands, kissing her long and hard again.

Unable to keep my hands or mouth off her now that I know how good she tastes and feels.

Getting myself dressed again, I show her the best bathroom which adjoins the office. And giving me a shy little smile before closing the door, I tell her I’ll be right back.

Busying myself, I easily find her a suitable outfit from the piles of merchandise I’m glad we kept so much of.

“I don’t know how much work we’d actually get done,” I murmur to myself, smiling as I picture Jade and me, side by side, day after day.

But having her working with me is the simplest and best cover story. A good excuse to have her with me constantly and backing up my reason for turning up unannounced at her house in the first place.

Her job offer.

Rapping on the bathroom door with a fresh change of clothes for her, I frown once she opens the door.

Shivering wearing nothing but the vintage-style tee shirt.

It’s not her outfit that bugs me; I could look at her in nothing but a T-shirt all night. Seeing her cold and uncomfortable bothers me, and Jade’s just as keen as I am to see her get warm and cozy again.
