Somehow, I didn't.

But I couldn't convince myself to add a few hundred dollars to the equation, even if it somehow removed the heartbreak. No matter how many times I told myself there was no shame in paying, I couldn't shake the ick factor.

Was I really going to become one of those men?

A man like Jimmy?

When did he cross the line into unrepentant douchebag? It wasn't when he started paying for it.

He had the same attitude before; that sex started with his erection and ended with his orgasm.

Has the guy ever eaten pussy in his life?

Doubtful.

But then he'd still be an asshole if it was his favorite activity in the world. Somehow, he'd fuck it up, and make it all about him.

Simon is right. Maybe I was never on Jimmy's exact path, but I was close.

Where did we verge?

When did I swing left?

I don't know, but I know I need to get the fuck away from this guy. Yeah, he was surprisingly game at the male revue. Everyone had a good time. Mostly thanks to the screaming women in the room and their extreme sexual energy.

But Jimmy kept it pretty contained. He invited another party to join a second club with us, paid for their entry, bought everyone drinks.

Sure, we're not at a traditional club filled with naked babes, but Jimmy is showing the bridesmaid a good time.

I shouldn't be so desperate to leave. It's early. It's Harrison's night. If he wants to watch a blonde twist around a pole topless—

Oh, there go her panties.

Who gives a fuck?

"Is that a dancer with purple hair?" Harrison raises a brow.

"The bartender wasn't enough for you?" I try to tease him, but I don't sell the enthusiasm.

"He didn't give me a lap dance," he says.

"He offered."

Harrison chuckles you're ridiculous.

"You want to bail?" I can't bail before the groom—that's a failure of duty—but I need to get out of here soon.

"After we talk to her."

"No way you're getting a lap dance from her."

"Maybe I am."

"Bullshit."

"We'll see." He turns to the dancer. "Hey, can you come over here?"

And she emerges from a group of bros.

Not a stripper in six-inch heels.

Briar in the dress she wore to dinner. "Hey."

Harrison doubles over laughing. "Did you set this up?"

"No." I turn to Bri. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I just, uh… well, I thought you were still at the male dancers club. I thought I'd crash. When I asked Simon for the address, he didn't mention that it was for a new venue. Full of naked women."

She surveys the place. Mirrored walls. Two stages. One with a single pole, with Candy here, and the other with two poles and similarly styled dancers.

It's the look here.

"Jimmy's idea?" she asks.

"How did you guess?" I ask.

"How about…" Harrison laughs. "I can't even ask. Sorry, Briar. You're a beautiful woman, but I'm not interested."

"No offense taken." She offers him a smile. "Congratulations. I'm sorry to crash your party."

"Don't be. I'm leaving." Harrison nods goodbye to Jimmy. "Where is Simon?"

"He walked a bridesmaid home." Yeah, he claimed he was going to check on Opal after that, but I didn't buy it. If he really did send Briar here…

The timing would have to be pretty specific.

Did he make me think he was getting laid so I wouldn't call him on bailing on the party?

Asshole is copying my moves.

"Take the limo home," I yell to Harrison.

He shakes his head. "It's too purple. You take it. That is your color." He winks and he moves through the cloud of douchebags.

He's gone.

And Jimmy is still cheering at the blonde, pulling the maid of honor closer, barely aware of our presence.

"Do you want to stay and watch him make a fool of himself?" I ask.

"Book a private room for a dance?" She half-smiles.

"Baby, if you want, I'm fucking game. If not, I'm ready to get the fuck out of here."

"You don't want to stay, watch the dancers?"

"Are you okay, Bri? You're not a party crasher."

"I, uh, I think so. It was just a lot. Dinner. And I was thinking about my dad, and…" She throws her arms around me and pulls me into a kiss.

It's fast, hard, hungry.

And like that I'm ready to go in every sense of the word. I need to touch her, taste her, fuck her. I don't care as long as I hear her groan.

"You want to stay, we stay." It's too loud to talk, so I bring my mouth to her ear. "We can debate whether or not Jimmy has ever eaten out a woman."

"Once. He wasn't immediately good at it, so he didn't like it. Now, he claims 'he's just not into it.'"

"Generous assessment."

"You think never?"

"I have my doubts."

She laughs. "I won't argue with them."

"I want to be where you are. If it's here, it's here—"

"No, I wanted to see naked guys."

"The second show is sold out tonight."
