"The Taylor place?" Jake frowns. "Didn't she move in with her daughter?"

Well, fuck me. Why does everyone in this town have to know everything about everyone? It's goddamn inconvenient.

"Someone just bought it."

"Who?" Jake asks.

"Can I borrow the equipment?" I ask Bishop, blatantly ignoring the question. These guys are my brothers, as far as I'm concerned. But they gossip too fucking much. As soon as I tell one of them about Sutton, every single one of them will know about her. They'll be hounding the shit out of me.

Bishop eyes me for a moment before nodding. "Fuck. Yeah, take what you need."

"Thanks, man."

"You going to need help?" Jake asks, pulling a cookie out of his pocket. I swear to God, the man's sweet tooth is legendary. "We can all swing by after work and help get shit sorted."

"Nah, I've got it."

"You sure?" Bishop asks. "That's a big job for a one-man crew."

I nod, giving them a tight-lipped smile. "Yeah, I'll manage. Thanks, though. I appreciate it."

As I turn away, I feel their curious gazes burning into my back. Damn it, the last thing I need is them wondering what the fuck I'm up to right now. I need to finish this job on my own. The longer it takes, the longer I have to figure out what Sutton is hiding. I know it's something. That much was abundantly clear this morning when she refused to tell me what she does.

She's twenty—three. Like I told her, there aren't many millionaires that age. The fact that she is one, coupled with the fact that she obviously doesn't want me to know what she does or much about her leads me to believe that she's trying to fly under the radar in Clearwater. She doesn't want anyone to know who she is. The only problem with that is that she's a shit liar.

Toddlers are better at keeping secrets than she is.

As if thinking about her conjured her up, my phone vibrates. I drag it out of my pocket, grinning when I see her message splashed across the display.

Sunshine: I've decided that I no longer need a plumber.

Me: Yeah? Then I guess it's a good thing that I'm not a plumber, isn't it?

Sunshine: I'm serious, Caleb. I don't need you anymore.

I lean against a beam, chuckling. She's determined to get rid of me. Too bad for her. It's not going to work.

Me: Tough shit. I'm coming anyway.

Three little dots appear, and then disappear, only to reappear again a moment later.

Sunshine: You're awful bossy.

Me: And you're awful fucking cute.

Me: By the way, are you still wet? My tongue stands at the ready to handle that problem…

Sunshine: When will Watson be back in town?

Me: Not anytime soon. Why?

Sunshine: Because I'd like to murder him for recommending the man sexually harassing me!!

I chuckle, not in the least sorry.

Me: You can deny it all you want, baby, but we both know you were wet for that man this morning. Do I need to prove it to you?

Sunshine: Does the Land of Delusion resemble Reality at all?

Me: Depends.

Sunshine: On what?Sunshine: Why do I feel like I'm going to regret asking that?

Me: Depends on whether your pretty little kitty is actually bare or if I'm just imagining it that way.

Sunshine: OH MY GOD!

Me: So, the Land of Delusion does resemble Reality then and it is bare. Fuck yeah.

Sunshine: I'm pretty sure this is highly illegal, Caleb. You can't just say things like this to clients.

Me: You aren't a client, baby. You haven't hired me.

I don't give a shit how much money she's worth. She isn't paying me to do a job I could do in my sleep. The cost of materials for the leak repair are negligible, and the equipment and labor are free. The only payment I need is this right here. Time with her.

Shit. I can't remember the last time I wanted to spend my time anywhere except for alone. But there's something all too appealing about spending my evenings holed up at her place, teasing her until she's blushing and stuttering.

Sunshine: Thank God for small favors.

Me: You mean because you'd feel bad lusting after your plumber, right?

Sunshine: What? No.

Me: Liar.

Sunshine: You aren't a plumber, remember?

I read her message, a slow grin spreading across my face. Ah, shit. That's as close to an admission as she's going to come. She likes me.

"Yo, Maverick! Get your head out of your phone and get your ass to work!" Jake shouts.

I glance up and realize half the crew is staring at me, matching quizzical frowns on their faces. Shit. I need to get my head on straight and get my ass to work if I want to keep half this fucking town from finding out about Sutton.

I quickly tap out a final message to her.

Me: I'll see you in a few hours, Sunshine.
