Immediately, Terry pounced. “We’ve met.”
Evan nodded. “Yes.”
“Please tell me you have good intentions where it comes to my sister.”
Evan nodded again. “I wouldn’t be sitting here if I didn’t.” He leaned forward, elbows on his knees. “I know it sounds fast, but I really care about your sister. Have you ever met someone and just knew?”
Terry inhaled slowly and then sighed. “No, but I’ve seen it happen to others. If you hurt her…”
“I won’t.”
“What do you do?” Terry asked to change the subject.
“I’m a professional photographer,” Evan answered evenly. He was ready for the interrogation he knew was coming. He would have done the same thing.
“Like in porn?” Terry asked bluntly.
Evan had to laugh. “No, I actually photograph inanimate objects and nature more than portraits.”
“Does that pay?”
“If you’re good,” Evan answered.
“And you’re good,” Terry stated.
“Sometimes, I’m brilliant. Other times, I suck,” Evan admitted.
“Tori doesn’t date. My parents sheltered her way too much. She hasn’t ever shown an interest in dating.”
“I hope I’ll change that. We had a great time together today. I intend to get to know Tori better. I promise, I’m a good guy—hurting her is the last thing on my list,” Evan tried to reassure the concerned brother.
“I’ll hold you to that,” Terry said evenly before warning, “My parents were very overprotective. She’s not like other women you might date.”
Before Evan could answer, the door opened and Tori flew out. She’d obviously run both ways to and from the bathroom and peed as fast as humanly possible. The two men exchanged a look. Evan nodded to let him know he’d understood the warning and appreciated the information.
Tori paused and looked back and forth between the men, trying to judge if something had happened while she was gone.
“It’s okay, Tori. I like Evan,” her brother reported.
“Oh,” she said in relief before joining them once again.
Evan sat and talked for about a half hour before asking Tori, “Would you walk me to my car? I think it’s time for me to go home and let you relax with Coral.”
She stood up reluctantly. Once at his car, Tori stood a short distance away from him. “I had a good time today. Thank you for taking me to the mall.”
“I had a good time today also,” he echoed as he closed the distance between them.
Evan wrapped his arms around Tori and pulled her close. “I plan on being part of your life now. Would you like to be part of mine?” he asked, his voice soft and intimate, creating a private bubble around them.
“I’d like that,” she admitted as she nodded.
“Good.”
Lowering his lips to meet hers, Evan kissed her like he’d wanted to all afternoon. His tongue brushed across her lips before sliding inside to taste the tea she’d sipped on. Her own sweet flavor made him want more. Deepening the kiss, Evan revealed the desire growing inside him. He loved that she responded shyly, but without hesitation. His Little girl was not an experienced lover. Her sweet sounds of surprise and enjoyment fueled his arousal. There was no doubt their lovemaking would be spectacular.
“Can I see you tomorrow, Curls?”
She stared at him, licking her lips. Her cheeks were flushed. “You want to go out with me again?”
He slid a hand to the small of her back. “Tori, I want to go out with you every day. How does that sound?”
She swallowed. “Um, I’d like that.”
He grinned. “Good. From now on, I’ll pick you up here at your brother’s house. No need to hide from him.”
“Okay.”
“What time do you get off work tomorrow?”
“Five.”
“I’ll pick you up at six then, yeah? And when I get here, you can show me your room.”
Her eyes widened and she lifted her hands in front of her, one thumb aiming for the other to pick on the nail polish.
Evan grabbed her hand, brought it to his lips, and kissed her fingertips. “Leave your pretty polish alone. I don’t want you to be nervous around me. Ever.”
She licked her lips again. “But my room… It’s a mess.”
He grinned. “Good. Don’t change a thing. I want to see exactly how my Little girl lives.”
She gasped. “Your Little girl?”
“Yep.”
“But we just met.”
He shrugged. “When Daddies meet their Little girl, they know it.”
“I’m not very inter…”
He lifted a finger to her lips to stop her from finishing that sentence. “No more putting yourself down. You’re interesting to me, and that’s all that matters. You’re exactly the sort of Little girl I’ve been looking for my entire life. I’m done looking. If you’ll have me.” He lifted a brow.
She blinked several times. “You can’t know that.”
“I do know it, and I’ll prove it to you, Curls. One day at a time. Starting tomorrow at six.” He kissed her one last time and pointed at the front door. “Go inside, Tori, so I’ll know you’re safe before I pull away.”
