It didn’t take long for some pretty boy to come up behind me, and another guy I assumed was his friend gripped Haven’s hips, working her ass on his dick as my beer splashed all over the floor by our feet.

“Relax, Haven!” I shouted over the music, feeling her anxiety about dancing with a man with her brothers near us. “Have some fun! We’re just dancing.”

I didn’t care if they were a couple of feet away. It was one thing for Jace to snatch my cigarettes. He wouldn’t play that same tune with me just from dancing with a guy. I wasn’t his sister. There was no reason for him to treat me like I was.

Shoving the mere thought of him away from my mind, I started dancing on the guy, swaying my body to the beat of the music as his hands stayed on my hips. We moved in sync with one another. By the feel of the bulge in his pants, he liked it. A lot.

I got lost in the music and the feel of his hands on me until all of a sudden, I heard Haven exclaim, “Holy shit!”

At the last second, I saw her brothers shoving people out of the way as if a ticking time bomb was about to explode. I watched as they took down anyone in their path, needing to get to her as fast as they could.

“Oh my God,” I rasped. “You have got to be kidding me.”

Her brother Ledger’s fist pulled back first, hitting the guy she was dancing with right in the jaw. Before I could scream at him for exaggerating what he just did, Jace unexpectedly hit the guy I was dancing with, causing my beer to splatter everywhere onto the ground.

In one quick movement, Reid threw Haven over his shoulder while Jace threw me over his.

“What the fuck?” I shrieked, caught off guard by what was happening. I immediately began waylaying on Jace’s back, demanding he put me down. “Who the fuck do you think you are!”

The rest of her brothers stayed inside, going to war with those men for nothing. We were just dancing.

Why was I getting dragged into this? Jace never treated me this way before.

“Jace! Put me down!” I ordered. To say I was confused was an understatement. “Now!”

He did, slamming my feet to the ground so hard I had to put my hands on his chest for balance.

Not a second later, he roared, “Not another fucking word out of your mouth, Cove!”

Hearing his tone, I pushed him as hard as I could. “Fuck you!”

For the second time that day, he wrapped his hand around my throat, backing me into the building this time. He held me firmly in place with what could only be described as a death grip.

Before I could lay it on him for treating me like this, he declared, “You are such a bad example for Haven! You’re nothing but bad news!”

“And you’re such an overbearing asshole! She’s eighteen, dickwad!”

“So are you! Why the hell are you drinking?”

“Because I can!” I tried to shove his hand away, but it didn’t budge. “Jace, if you don’t let go of me, I’ll—”

“You’ll what?” he sneered through a clenched jaw.

My chest heaved, feeling the weight of his insults and warning.

“You’re going to be a good little girl and get your ass in my truck. Do you understand me?”

“Good little girl?” I emphasized, offended. “Are you for real?”

“When you act like a child, I’ll treat you like one.”

“A child? I’m an adult! I can do whatever I want. You’re not my brother!”

“And thank God for that. I’d be ashamed if I were.”

I winced. It was quick, but he saw it.

Haven must have too because she coaxed, “Jace—”

He silenced Haven with his finger in the air behind him. His seething glare didn’t move from my furious expression.

“You want to parade your pussy around like it’s fucking free? Then you’ll meet men who won’t hesitate to fuck you in the bathroom stall. Is that what you want for yourself, Cove?”

I flinched, taking in what he was brutally saying. No one had ever spoken to me this way.

“Jace, that’s enough!” Haven ordered, knowing he was purposely hurting my feelings.

He didn’t listen to her, not that I expected him to.

Fuck him.

“One day, you’ll find yourself in a heap of trouble if you don’t start changing your ways. Have more goddamn respect for yourself, little girl.” With that, he let me go. “Now get your ass in my truck so I can drive you home.”

I snapped, “I can take an Uber.”

“Cove… I’m not going to tell you again.”

My intense gaze shifted to Haven as she mouthed, “Just go with him.”

Meeting his glare, I reminded, “I’m not your problem, Jace.”

“I’m making you my problem.”

Reluctantly, I left with him. However, that didn’t stop him from grabbing my arm to guide me like a fucking lap dog.
