My son did that.

It shouldn’t turn me on so much to have that thought. Although, I’m going to be honest and admit I like it. Her top reveals her midriff and ties in the center of her breasts as it hugs her chest.

A chest that seems to have gotten bigger. Seeing that she seems taller, I look down at her feet. I snort as the stripper-looking heels come into view.

“I don’t remember asking you to join us.”

“You didn’t. Pit did.”

“Who are you dressed up for?”

“Myself. You act like I was some bum-ass chick when we met. On my brokest day, I was still fly when I stepped out the door. You really need to stop trying to play me.”

“Whatever.”

“I’ll get out of your way.”

I drop my bag as she goes to walk by and grab her wrist. Looking into her eyes, I have a million things I want to say, but I can’t push them out past my anger. I search her face, looking for a sign of the girl I fell in love with.

She looks down at her feet, breaking the connection. “Listen, it’s your brother’s birthday. They had this weekend planned way before our drama came up. Can we be civil for the weekend? I promise we can sit and figure things out after they all leave.”

“Yeah, whatever,” I say and let her go.

I can’t take my eyes off the sway of her hips as she walks out. I shake my head and chide myself for allowing my dick to take over my thoughts. The last thing I need is to sleep with Alexis. Nothing good happens when I do.

AJ’s the best thing to ever happen to you.

Yeah, don’t I know this to be a fact. I love my son. He’s so smart and a sweet little boy.

Shaking my head, I turn for the shower. It’s my brother’s birthday. Tonight isn’t about me. That’s the one thing I can agree with Alexis about.

I finish my shower and dress in a pair of fresh light blue jeans with frayed thighs and a white button-up, leaving the top three buttons open. I tug on a black blazer as I exit the room. My black-and-gray Bo Jackson sneakers allow me to pad down the stairs quietly.

Once I make it down to the main floor, the music and laughter hit me fully. It sounds like everyone’s having a good time already. As I enter the common area where the party is, the first thing to catch my attention is my wife dancing with her cousins.

As I look at Alexis with Skittles and Shawna, I have to wonder how I didn’t put it together sooner. I totally get why AJ is drawn to Skittles. My wife is a lighter-skinned version of her cousin. She could slightly pass for Skittles.

However, what really has my attention is the way Alexis’s body moves. Her body looks damn good. It’s only been a little less than two years since she carried my son. Although, if I didn’t know better, I’d question if she carried him at all.

“I can only imagine the shit going through your head right now,” Luke says in my ear as he comes up behind me.

I grunt. “I need a drink.”

I look to see Rome behind the bar and frown. I had planned to post up behind it for the night. Rome hands me a beer and two shot glasses as Pit comes over. Pit takes one shot and I take the other.

“To family,” he croons.

“To family. Happy birthday, bro.”

He tosses his drink back and slams the glass on the bar. He cups the back of my neck and kisses my forehead. Yeah, he’s already gone.

I smile at him and take a pull from my beer. Skittles comes over with a big smile on her face. I peek over to see where Alexis is. She’s now dancing with Kelex.

I clench my jaw and tell myself I don’t care. However, when he reaches to brush her bangs out of her eyes, I nearly snarl. My grasp on my beer is so tight I might break the glass.

“Dude, go over, talk to her,” Skittles tries to coax.

“Nah, I’m good.”

“You need to go dance with your wife.”

“She has someone to dance with. Replacing me comes easy to her.”

Skittles folds her arms across her chest and glares at me. I shrug and finish my beer before asking for another. I’m working to catch up. Deacon, Luke, and Tak all look like they’ve been keeping up with Pit so far.

I roll my shoulders back and tell myself to relax. Pit grabs a tray of shots and nods for me to follow him and the guys outside onto the deck.

Rome brings up the rear as we all step out into the crisp night air. I look up at the stars and inhale deeply. Pit taps my arm as he hands me two shot glasses.
