I watch them burn before I drop them to the ground. Still, each time I close my eyes, I keep seeing them. The betrayal burns hotter than the flames I watch consume the photos.
“He’s my son.” I breathe the truth that has been in the back of my mind.

“It’s no wonder I haven’t seen AJ since I asked to meet his mother,” I snarl as I tighten my grip on the arms of my seat to do something with all this anger.
“Let me get this right, you’ve been married for as long, if not longer, than we’ve known you?” Skittles says from her seat across from me on the plane.
I should’ve known she wasn’t going to stay behind once Pit told her why I was going to New York. I sit fuming, willing this plane to get there already.
“Same day you guys had that race, I got married. So I’ve been married for as long as you two have known each other.”
“She just walked out on you without a word?” Skittles asks sadly, her brows wrinkled in confusion.
“Yeah. I hadn’t seen her in years until we went to New York for that race. That’s when I slept with her. That’s when we had to have made AJ.”
“Well, damn. I wish you didn’t burn the pictures. I want to see what this chick looks like. You do know I’m going to beat her ass, right? I’m just saying.”
I sigh and rub my forehead. To be honest, I’m so pissed off, I don’t think I would care. I just want my son.
“I don’t understand any of it. Kid has been a friend. Or at least I thought she was.”
“Fuck her. I’m going to whip her ass too. All up in your face lying the whole time.”
“Yo, settle your little half-pint ass down. I came along to keep him out of jail. I don’t need to bail you both out.”
“Humph.” She shifts around in her seat and folds her arms over her chest.
Yeah, I’m glad Pit did come along. I swear to God, I’m going to flip that fucking apartment inside out. How could she do this?
Chapter 28
Kick In the Door
Alexis
“Listen, Anthony, either sit and watch the movie or take your nap,” I say to AJ as he whimpers and whines.
Kid is here for a visit. We’ve been here in the living room as we talk. I already gave in and allowed him to make a little pallet to lie on out here because he’s too nosy to go nap in our room.
He looks at me like he’s about to throw a tantrum. I glare at him in warning. He makes an O shape with his lips and turns to lie on the pillows surrounding him as he watches the movie.
I roll my lips to keep from laughing at him. He’s been testing me more and I don’t think he likes the results he’s been getting. He peeks back at Kid but turns back around quickly.
“He’s so cute,” Kid whispers through her laughter.
“As a button, but I’m not about to let him whine at me for the next two hours. He needs to take a nap and stop fighting it.”
“It’s my fault. He’s fighting his sleep because I’m here.”
“Where’s the lie? Girl, he’s been acting up since you arrived. His naps used to be like clockwork.”
We both laugh. I think AJ is just as happy as I am to have Auntie Jenny in town. Or should I say Auntie Ki? I laugh at the thought.
I jump as someone starts to bang on my front door. I look to Kid in surprise. I’m not expecting company. I get up and run for my Taser.
When I get to the door and peek out the peephole, my already racing heart is ready to come out of my chest. Ant is outside my door, and it looks like he has someone else with him.
Cautiously, I open the door and peek out. I’m pushed back and fly into the wall behind me. Tightening the grip on my Taser, I get ready to fight back.
“Lex?”

I’m so pissed. It didn’t dawn on me that Skittles was getting ready this whole time to attack on sight. In the car, she changed her little heels out for a pair of combat boots. Then in the elevator, she pulled her hair up in a bun. Once we got to the door, she angled herself at my side.
When Alexis opened the door to peek out, Skittles hauled back and kicked the door in. I’m still in shock. However, when Skittles freezes as she runs inside after a dazed-looking Alexis, I’m snapped back to the moment with a whopping dose of reality.
“Lex?” Skittles gasps.
“Oh, you have to be fucking kidding me. Ven and Shawn. Those weren’t dudes. Mayven and Shawna are your cousins. I’m so stupid. You’ve been playing me for years.”
