Fuck it all.

The goddamned waiter came back.

Now I was the one getting the odd look, but Emerson seemed to make the shy man feel more confident because he inched sideways and closer to my sweet boy’s side of the table, focusing on him. “I forgot to ask if you wanted more tea, Sir?”

Sure, that was why he’d come back.

“You’re very sweet.” Emerson’s perky smile had an air of genuineness that the man seemed to pick up on. “Thank you for taking very good care of us. I bet you would be a wonderful service sub if you weren’t a little.”

I was back to just watching the man open and close his mouth again.

After about ten seconds, he swallowed. “Thank you…Sir.”

Did he think he should say ma’am to Emerson or was he more worried about calling another sub Sir?

Even having dinner with Emerson was fascinating.

Emerson didn’t ask any questions, he simply smiled and gave the waiter a chipper reply. “You’re welcome.”

Emerson turned back to me as the waiter wandered off again. “Oh, do you want more tea, Sir? I can call him back over for you. He’s…easily distracted, I think.”

I was Sir, again?

And yes, the waiter was very easily distracted.

“No, I’m fine.” Leaning back, I couldn’t help studying Emerson’s twinkling eyes and wondering if I was seeing the mischievous grin I thought was peeking out or if it was just my imagination. “I’m finished, and I was thinking about finding dessert at home?”

The artful innocence faded in an instant as excitement seemed to course through his entire body. “Oh yes, Sir. You can dress me up and then we’ll have something wonderful. What do you think of cake? We could have a dessert tea party.”

My pretty doll never did anything halfway…hmm, did I have cake?

Chapter 11

Emerson

I had the best Owner ever.

He had cupcakes.

Well, muffins. But they were chocolate and we were going to put frosting on them. Anything with frosting had to count as some type of cake. Eli said so.

“What should I wear?” Twirling around the kitchen, I tried to imagine what kind of pretty outfit my Owner should put me in. “I didn’t dress for a party. I’m boring.”

I was going to need to start keeping a few changes of clothes in my car.

I was in pants and a pullover shirt that Eli said made me look delectable…but it was not tea party wear.

Luca chuckled, and as I twirled again, his arms came around me, pinning me to his chest. “You are going to crash into something.”

“I already did.” Turning my head, I smiled. “You.”

That got another laugh out of him before his lips pressed together and his mind started to plan. Thankfully, it wasn’t to my detriment. “I think we need to focus on your outfit, pretty one.”

Oh, it was party time.

“I would be very pretty in a tiara.” The hint was enough to have him smiling again. “And something sparkly to wear? Eating cake is very fancy.”

His lips turned up at the corners, but he nodded and was very serious. “You’re right. Let’s go see what we can find.”

Oh, and now we were going on a fashion hunt.

But Luca held my hand so there was no more twirling.

“What did you do today, Owner?” Because he seemed very tired. He’d even yawned on the ride back to his wonderful studio.

But I wasn’t sure it was a doll's place to question their Owner too much…so I was just going to do it a little.

Luca chuckled, looking like he fought off another yawn as he led me out into the studio. “It feels like I did everything today.”

That was not helpful.

Luckily, all it took was for his doll to give him a very skeptical look for him to keep talking as we walked through the building.

He was such a good Owner.

“Well, I had an idea last night about a project I’ve been tinkering on. It’s for a red-carpet thing next year, but I haven’t been able to figure it out until it just came to me.” Luca’s whole body seemed to light up as he talked about his possibly secret project and he got an almost predatory glee out of having conquered the problem.

I was curious, but Hollywood liked secrets, so I wasn’t even going to ask to peek because I was a good doll.

“Then after Roman’s ridiculously early phone call, I remembered I should’ve been at a staff meeting.” Luca rolled his eyes like that hadn’t gone as planned. “Somehow I’d thought it would be a good idea to have it at a local coffee shop so I could buy everyone breakfast.”

At least that’d meant that he’d eaten breakfast, right?

“Was the meeting productive?” I knew from experience that answer was not always predictable.

“I think so.” Luca nodded faintly as he steered us toward a door down the hall, but his mind seemed to be going in a thousand different directions so I wasn’t sure if he was agreeing with me or talking to himself. “But it just seemed to make my to-do list grow even longer.”
