“Oh, my…” Fuck me.

Unbelievable. I crossed my arms and tried not to sweat at the idea of my mom grilling the guy I was kind of sort of seeing. He wandered my living area, pausing to admire Noah’s Lego Battlestar Galactica on the coffee table before standing in front of the framed poster depicting the interior of the USS Enterprise. Damn. I should have insisted on meeting him downstairs.

“…yes, of course. We’re going to an Italian restaurant on Second Street. Not far at all.…Okay. Sure.…I’ll tell Edward. Nice talking to you. Good-bye.” Logan handed my phone to me with a big ol’ grin on his handsome face. “Here you go, Edward. Your mom can’t wait to meet me. Ready for ’sketti?”

I pulled at his sleeve as he opened the door. “Whoa! She has never done that. Ever. What did she say? What did you say? Did she freak you out? Ask about your GPA or your career trajectory or—”

“Relax, baby. Deep breaths. She was very nice. The only thing that freaked me out was that I didn’t know your real name is Edward. You’ve been holding out on me,” he said, pulling me into his arms.

“That’s it? You’re not traumatized?”

He grinned. “Nope. But I am hungry. Let’s do this. Who’s the Trekkie? You or your roomie? I fuckin’ love Star Trek. When I was a kid, I…”

I closed the door behind us and followed Logan outside in a daze.

We were well into our appetizers at the cute bistro he’d chosen before I circled back to his chat with my mom.

“What did she say? You don’t have to tell me.” I waved dismissively. “It’s just strange. She’s never asked to speak to my…”

“Boyfriend,” he supplied, dipping a piece of bread into olive oil. “You were standing right there. It was a one-minute conversation, but I think she likes me.”

“I’m sure she does.”

“Cool. My parents will like you too.”

“You say that like you know for a fact I’ll meet them someday.”

Logan smiled. “Presumptive of me, eh? I just think it’s a good idea to try to be positive. If I think it’ll happen, maybe it will.”

“So if you think you’ll win the lottery, maybe you will?” I teased.

“Yep! But I’m a realist. I won’t get my hopes up for a billion dollar windfall,” he said with a laugh. “But I have a good feeling about you.”

“Thanks, but what happens after—never mind.” I sipped my wine, then tapped the glass. “This is very good.”

“Uh huh. What were you really going to ask?”

I shifted in the leather booth and glanced at the iron-and-crystal sconce above our table. Ugh. I forgot that wine loosened my lips. I took a healthy sip and smiled.

“I was going to ask what happens next. But I don’t want you to answer, because it’s an impossible question. You might be here, I might be in San Diego or San Jose or San Francisco. There’s no way of knowing.”

Logan nodded slowly. “True. We can’t worry about the future.”

“All I do is worry about what comes next. How are you always so calm?”

“I’m not always calm. I just don’t like stress. I’d rather take a zen approach. Be positive and good things will come.”

I liked the sentiment, but I was leery of future tripping so I leaned in, fluttering my eyelashes.

“Is this where you make a crack about how many times you want to come tonight?”

Logan threw his head back and laughed. “Five.”

“That’s all?”

“We’ll keep going till we’re worn out. Then we’ll rest up and do it all over again. By the way, you’re coming home with me.”

“Is that a question?”

“Nope. It’s a fact.”

“You’re bossy.”

“You’re cute.”

“I’m not cute.”

“Yeah, you are,” he argued playfully.

We shared a goofy grin that stretched on while the server delivered our meals and probably lasted through dinner. I wanted him, he wanted me. It was good to stay in the moment.

By the time Logan unlocked his front door, I’d lost my ability to think straight. Desire sparked between us like a live wire on the drive to his place and on the short walk from his truck to his apartment. The slightest brush of his shoulder made me shiver with awareness and need. And knowing Logan felt it too gave me a burst of confidence. I reached around him to grip his cock through his jeans when he pushed the door open.

“Oh, good. You’re hard too,” I hummed in his ear.

Logan pulled me inside and pushed me against the door before crashing his mouth over mine. I was ready for him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and thrust my tongue into his mouth. The adrenaline level rose with every thrust and lick. We clawed at shirts and fumbled with buckles and zippers as we fought for dominance. Who was I kidding? I wanted him to own me. I wanted him to tear my clothes off and fuck me into next week.
