Jessie stepped back from him, his eyes flashing dangerously. “Lucky, get the fuck out of my goddamn face right now,” Jessie snarled.

“Jessie, bro, go with it,” I urged him. “You fight him, he’ll slap you with more charges.” I knew it was bullshit, but cooperation was the best way to go.

We were on West’s side, which now made us bad guys in this town. And we had to deal with that.

“Which officer?” Julian spoke up, looking between the four officers that were in our garage. “Who did Jessie supposedly assault?”

“Who the fuck are you?” the sheriff demanded to know.

Julian casually leaned back against the work table. “Julian Markos,” Julian introduced himself, looking relaxed as fuck.

Jessie let a careless smirk twist his lips. “That goddamn scared of me, Lucky?” Jessie demanded to know. “We can pull fucking footage—let them see that I never fucking threatened you. I told you to get the fuck out of my garage.”

“You and your goddamn security footage,” Lucky growled, taking a step back from Jessie. “You two men are through in this town, you hear me?”

I clenched my jaw. “We haven’t done shit, officer,” I sneered.

“Standing behind trouble like you are is enough,” Lucky snapped at me. “West is only going to end up either behind bars again or six feet in the ground.” I clenched my fists at my sides. “She’s no fucking good—never has been. I always thought you boys were smarter than that. Just goes to show she’s just like her mother—opens her legs and has men bending to her will.”

Before I could even think twice about what the fuck I was doing, I swung my fist out, clocking him across the face before anyone could stop me. I was roughly tackled to the ground by two officers. Julian held Jessie back to keep him from getting arrested, too.

Lucky kneeled beside me while one of the officers cuffed my arms behind my back. I was seething. “You’re fucking through with, Lincoln,” he snarled.

When I was yanked off the ground, I spit in his face. “Keep my woman’s name out your goddamn mouth,” I warned him. “Whole fucking town has been sideways since I was a fucking kid, and it’s only been proven with your fucking blind hatred of West.”

“Shut your fucking mouth before I make you, boy,” Sheriff Youngblood snapped at me, finally opening his mouth. What a goddamn pussy. Letting his little bitch boys do his dirty work for him.

“Come fucking closer and say that,” I taunted, beyond the point of giving a fuck anymore.

I vaguely saw Julian wrestle Jessie into the office, locking him in there when Jessie began popping off at the mouth at the officers. Sheriff Youngblood stormed over to me and slammed his baton into my abdomen. I gritted my teeth against the pain, not letting a sound escape.

“You’re going away for a long time, boy. I’ll fucking make sure of it,” Sheriff Youngblood promised as he stepped back from me. He turned on his heel, storming away from me. “Get him in a fucking squad car,” he ordered.

West

Dr. Gresham stepped into the room. I was curled up on the sofa, reading a book, but I looked up at him. I had recently gained back my ability to read, and speaking was choppy. Writing was getting better, but it was still pretty shaky and mostly unintelligible.

“I have some bad news for you,” Dr. Gresham began. I frowned as he took a seat in front of me. His face was solemn, and fear settled in my gut. I swallowed nervously, nodding my head for him to continue. “There was an incident at the garage.” I sucked in a sharp breath of air, my heart knocking hard against my chest, fear for my men crawling through my veins. “Lincoln was arrested.”

“What?” I choked out. Lincoln—arrested? I reached up to rub my chest. I drew in a shaky breath, but I was already beginning to panic. Tears slid down my cheeks.

“Take deep breaths, West,” Dr. Gresham urged. “Breathe. Focus on breathing.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to calm my racing heart. I sobbed. “Julian is here to see you. He knows more about what happened than I do,” he told me.

I instantly stood up from the couch I’d been on, needing to see Julian, for him to tell me what the fuck was going on. Dr. Gresham stood up as well and gripped the door handle. When he opened it, Julian stepped into the room with Meghan at his side. “What happened?” I managed to bite out, forcing my voice to work and my lips to move properly, which was a task and a half given the situation.

“Here, sit down,” Meghan urged as she gently forced me to sit back down on the couch. She took a seat beside me and grabbed my hand in hers. Julian took Dr. Gresham’s seat and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees and linking his fingers together in front of him.
