He was so funny.

“I’m fine with sitting at your feet, Master.” The words made him grin, but it was the slave girl from a dirty movie tone that had him snickering.

“Don’t distract me with your dirty fantasies, pup.” His quick comeback had me blushing. I wasn’t sure I was the slave girl type, but I could be talked into a lot with the right sexy smile.

Like the one Cohen was giving me.

“Yes, Sir.” I gave him a quick peck, trying to show him I wasn’t as worried as he probably thought I was, before sitting down on the floor. “See, I can behave.”

Sometimes.

His snort said he was thinking the same thing.

When he was settled in front of me and I’d been resettled so I could sit on a pillow from the couch, he stroked his hand over my head. “Still want me to answer your question, pup?”

Nodding, I curled into his legs and rested my head on his thigh. As I peered up at him, I found myself relaxing even more. Something about the position made it impossible to stay worried. “It doesn’t seem as important now, but I know once you’re not around to distract me just by looking so sexy, I’ll start obsessing again, so yeah, I still want an answer.”

Instead of rolling his eyes, which was what most people would’ve done, he smiled and ran his fingers along the side of my face. “I love the way you answer so honestly. I never have to worry about how accurate your answers are.”

Hmm.

I’d never seen it that way.

“Thank you, Sir.” His touch had me fighting to keep my eyes open. I wasn’t tired, but I just wanted to sink into his touch. “I’m glad I don’t annoy you.”

He snorted. “We’re going to come back to that later, because you’ve clearly dated some losers and need to remember what a great guy you are, but for now…Ian.”

Yes, Ian.

I gave the faintest nod before he made a soft thinking sound, petting my head as he worked through my question. “I guess I don’t have an issue with it because he’s completely opposite than me and you’d need very different things from us. You’re not looking to submit to him.”

I jerked, shaking my head and making Cohen chuckle as he continued. “It’s not like your pup is looking to have another Handler. This is…please tell me if I’m wrong…but I see this as you looking to be the Dom when you explore caring for his little side.”

Huh?

My eyes seemed to pop open on their own. “I’m just standing in. He needs…well, someone needs to take care of him when he’s little and everyone seems to have forgotten that.”

I wasn’t going to be his Dom.

I was a sub.

Right?

Cohen’s lips were barely turned up at the edges like he was doing his best not to laugh.

Brat.

But I ignored it since I was a good sub.

A sub.

“He doesn’t talk about it with anyone but you.” Cohen leaned down and kissed my head. “I’ve met him a few times and it wasn’t until I think Eli mentioned it that I realized he was a little. Hell, he didn’t even talk about being a sub.”

Really?

“He told me right off the bat.” It’d been one of the first things he’d told me about himself. “He didn’t seem shy about talking about it when we had coffee the other day.”

It was possible that was just because I’d been a bit…enthusiastic, but he hadn’t told me to slow down or even no.

“And I bet when you’ve texted him this week, he’s told you all kinds of other things?” Cohen’s question had me nodding distractedly.

“Of course.” Focusing back on his face, I shrugged. “I have to know how to be a good stand-in Daddy.”

Something made him laugh softly. “You will be the best stand-in Daddy because you genuinely want him to be happy, and I think because you like him.”

The way he said it made it clear that he meant more than just the regular kind of like, and I didn’t have a way to respond to that. But my silence was clearly telling because his smile widened and his touch went from soothing to teasing.

“I bet you’d like to cuddle him and take care of him…hmm, and give him a bath, maybe?” Cohen’s eyes sparkled with something sexy as he slowly nodded, answering his own question as I sat there stunned. “Yes, you’d love giving him a bubble bath and I bet he goes very little sometimes…Eli told me he likes bunnies. Did you know that?”

Shaking my head, I had to wonder why Eli had mentioned that.

Wait.

Why hadn’t Cohen wondered why he’d mentioned that?

“What do you think about us going tomorrow and picking out a new stuffy for him?” Cohen’s fingers trailed down my neck sending a shiver through me. “That way he’d know I wasn’t angry or jealous. You don’t want him to worry, do you?”
