Carter blinked. “Oh, I forgot we hadn’t met before this. I run an antique store.”

Oh.

That made more sense than the office manager guess…but I was still fairly certain being Wyatt’s handler should go on his resume too.

“That’s great.” Bishop had completely tuned out Cohen’s conversation and was now fully focused on Carter.

It was so cute and I loved the little glances Cohen kept sending his way, smiling and shaking his head. I had a feeling he was glad Daddy had found someone who shared the same interests and wasn’t put off by our life…because I knew I was.

Daddy wasn’t exactly lonely, but he needed work people in his life that weren’t involved at Leashes & Lace.

As they talked and Daddy quizzed Carter about what he sold, with all kinds of specific questions that were basically still Greek, I relaxed and mentally wandered as they bonded.

I should’ve paid more attention.

“Yeah, next week would be great. I love that color and style, but I just have to work around unpacking the last of the stuff from my move and a few things like that.” Bishop turned and gave me a questioning look that had me tuning back in. “That sounds good, right?”

Huh?

“I’m sorry. I don’t know if I’m supposed to pick a stain color or get out my calendar.” Trying to clear my brain, I blinked and barely resisted shaking my head to clear out the fuzzy brain feeling. “I completely tuned out.”

Bishop smirked and leaned over to kiss my head. “Carter asked if we wanted to have lunch next week…maybe the weekend?”

Oh.

Yeah, Daddy should have everything put away by then, even if he was dragging his feet and trying to decide when he should move in with Cohen.

“Sure.” That fit most of the context I’d gotten, but what had the color thing been about? Worried he’d actually explain if I asked, I nodded. “I don’t think we have anything else going on.”

Besides, even if we did, we could work around it for someone who shared Bishop’s love of old furniture.

Carter was trying not to laugh, but he wasn’t doing a terribly good job of it. “And we promise not to bore you.”

Rolling my eyes, I refused to blush and almost succeeded. “I’m not bored. I just got distracted by the conversations and all the cool stuff in here.”

It wasn’t a lie either, even if I hadn’t fessed up to how tired I was, so I pointed across the room. “Is that a Saint Andrew’s cross or a hat stand? I feel a bit ridiculous that I can’t identify it right off the bat.”

“Don’t be.” Carter shook his head and hopped down off the crate, landing perfectly on heels I knew Eli would’ve been jealous of. “I’ll show you. It’s actually one part of two pieces.”

He looked around as he grabbed our hands and started steering us across the room. “Yes, there’s the other one. I made Wyatt show me the other day because I had no idea what it was either. Oh, and don’t let me forget to show you the crib he’s making. It looks like a daybed, but it shifts to a crib. It’s super cute.”

Oh.

“He does little stuff too?” I wondered if Uncle Cohen knew that. “You know, I just got a new playroom.”

Carter’s laughter filled the warehouse, but Daddy’s groan made me giggle.

He was just a little suspicious…and so smart it was cute.

But Uncle Cohen loved me, so I wasn’t worried.

Besides, Uncle Cohen had already said we needed a good place to snuggle and read books…research was definitely necessary.

Chapter 17

Cohen

“And he had a rocking horse and a crib and a tall shelf with a hidey box thing that would be perfect for keeping my toys safe.” Ian completely ignored the way Bishop rolled his eyes as our cute boy snuggled closer to me on the couch.

He’d been sliding toward his little headspace since we’d left Wyatt’s studio, and reliving all the wonderful things he’d seen was making the limbo space last longer. I had a feeling part of it was because of how tired he was.

He and his friends hadn’t gone full sleepover last night, but they’d stayed out late, and then the three of us had had fun staying up even later. Sleeping in this morning hadn’t happened either because he’d been too nervous about finally taking us to meet his friend-ish person Wyatt.

To say Ian was worn out would’ve been an understatement.

“Tell me about the shelf with the hidey box.” Pulling him onto my lap as Bishop glared at me, sending me silent, psychic messages not to promise Ian anything, I ignored all negativity and focused on the happiness Ian was radiating.

Hidey box?

Hidden box?

Hidden shelf?

Hidden bookcase?

Had I even seen a bookcase?

Ian snuggled against me, resting his head on my shoulder and yawning as he settled in. “It was a big shelf thingy at the back and Carter said Wyatt was working on a new one and he showed me and it was all pretty and had lots of shelves and they were fat and one of them opened up like magic.”
