I’d thought the older couple who were just a few tables over would have a heart attack. The husband seemed to be incredibly hard of hearing thankfully, but if his wife’s eyes had gotten any wider, they’d have fallen out of her head.
Eli’s grin peeked out as he shrugged. “It was about a photo shoot, and you’re not a prude, so don’t pretend to be.”
I turned to Preston and raised one eyebrow. “Really?”
He shrugged, siding with the drama queen. “Well, technically it was work-related.”
Only by the loosest definition.
But Preston had only let Eli get away with it because the nosy old bat had told Eli that men shouldn’t wear pearls.
The skirt and heels she didn’t seem to mind, but the pearls tipped her over the edge? People were so strange.
“Besides.” Eli leaned over the table and let his wicked grin out. “You’re the reason we’re here, so you can’t be too innocent. Hmm, or maybe it’s got something to do with your men. You might be too innocent and they’re trying to expand your horizons.”
He started to study me like I was a fascinating new toy he was going to dissect. “Hmm, I can’t decide if it’s Ian or Bishop that told you to ask about it.”
I’d been deliberately vague and had just said I was told to check it out, so the brat was just fishing. “I’m not sure this is my type of establishment.”
Preston laughed, almost snorting. “You’re not as boring as you pretend to be.”
It wasn’t pretend…I wasn’t nearly as fascinating as the rest of them.
Eli huffed. “Ian. It was Ian, right? He wouldn’t admit it, but it was him.”
What?
“When did you talk to Ian?” Fuck. “That’s why you were in the bathroom so long.”
He was so nosy.
Preston rolled his eyes and looked like he wanted to slap him upside the head. “What did we say about this kind of thing?”
What kind of thing?
“I’ll tell Roman on your ass.” Preston actually wagged his finger at Eli making the drama queen pout. “Don’t think I won’t.”
“That’s mean.”
Whatever Eli had done was treading on Preston’s last nerve. “Don’t poke at people.”
Rolling his eyes, Eli scoffed. “I didn’t. I just asked how the sleepover was going and then wondered out loud about why Cohen wanted us to go to BJ’s.”
Good grief.
Had he even realized that was a bar and not an activity?
How clearly was he thinking?
“What did he say?” Had he been worried about why I’d wanted to come?
“Nothing logical.” Eli huffed, folding his arms across his chest as he slouched back. “He was already three sheets to the wind, and Emerson kept interrupting and asking what my thoughts on world domination were.”
Huh?
He was so strange.
“I’m not telling you anything specific until I know why we’re here, and then I reserve the right to say absolutely nothing if it would embarrass anyone I know.” There were probably other very reasonable qualifiers I should’ve added, but I was distracted by the thought of naked world domination.
There was no way Emerson had remembered to keep his clothes on.
“What is going on?” I looked around confused as a buzz started to grow over in the corner.
Did this place take bets on something?
Why were they all checking the time?
What the fuck had Bishop gotten me into?
He was definitely getting a spanking when he got home.
Fuck.
That was why he’d gotten me into something to begin with.
Fucking hell.
Preston was nearly giggling he was so excited and Eli started bouncing. “They’re here.”
Was there a local celebrity I wasn’t aware of?
It was probably some moron who did reality TV half-naked.
And maybe not.
It was a couple. A normal-looking couple with their clothes on and holding hands. I couldn’t see every detail clearly across the room, but something happened to make the shorter man blush. The other man smacked his ass and leaned down to say something that made the blushing worse.
And I was starting to see why we were here.
The buzz was almost palpable and I could feel the desire in the room go up a notch as the man wiggled next to the guy who had to be his Dom.
“Did Emerson say if world domination included anything dangerous?” Asking about the men who’d just walked in seemed like it would set Eli off on a dirty tangent, so I stayed focused on the important things.
Emerson and his ability to talk Ian into random shit.
Eli sighed and glared at me, not appreciating the way I hadn’t asked about the men. “No, there was no mention of restraints or anything weird. He was just asking about world domination and my thoughts on slides? I’m starting to wonder what the fuck they’re drinking, though.”
Preston rolled his eyes. “I’m betting you already asked that so you knew what to buy next time.”
As Eli gave us a wicked grin, I had to chuckle. “They probably just said they were drinking slushies. When I asked that question, Ian shrugged and said Lane was in charge of the drinks because he’s the most grown-up and gets trusted with the blender.”
