“You can touch me anytime you want, Angel.” He clears the space between us, coming to stand in front of me. “I enjoy your touch.” His words take me by surprise. I drop my head back to stare up at him. He’s so handsome.
“I don’t understand. I—” His mouth comes down onto mine, cutting me off. His hands dig into my hair as he moves his mouth against mine. I lean into his hard body when his tongue licks the seam of my lips. I part them for him, his tongue slipping into my mouth.
My eyes fall closed as I start to kiss him back. My tongue tangles with his, trying to match his strokes. He tastes sweeter than I thought he would. His hands in my hair tighten, pulling me closer to him. I gasp when I feel his erection press into my stomach. Heat blooms through my whole body.
How is this happening? Hunter Hoffman is kissing me. I slept in his bed last night. I’m obviously still asleep, and all of this is a dream. That’s the only explanation I can think of.
A knock sounds in the distance, followed by the sound of the doorbell. Hunter groans against my mouth before he pulls away from the kiss, leaving me breathless. He stares down at me. My eyes drop to his mouth. His lips are a bit redder now. I did that to him.
“It’s probably breakfast.” He leans down and kisses the tip of my nose before he releases his hold on me.
“I need to get to work,” I say as I watch him go to the door.
“You’re not going anywhere, angel.” He opens the door. The same man from the night before is there. I think his name is Marco. The one I’d heard talking to him about a contract. A non-disclosure agreement or something. I’d only caught part of what they’d been saying.
“I got your papers.” He holds up a folder.
“I said I’d call when I needed you to come up.”
“The judge is on the way.” Marco glances past Hunter to me. I lift my hand to give a wave, but Hunter steps over in front of him, blocking our view of each other. What the heck?
“I suppose you can send him up when he gets here.”
“Can you wait a bit for breakfast, angel?” Hunter comes back toward me. Marco follows closely behind him on his phone.
“I really should get back to work.”
“I have another proposition for you, actually. A new job, you might call it. A promotion.” He grabs my hand and pulls me toward one of the couches. He sits down, pulling me into his lap.
“What kind of job?”
“A permanent one. I’m sure you’ve heard stories about me. There is always gossip going around. I know how gossipy these hotels can be.”
“That you’re gay?” I blurt out. I put my hand over my mouth as soon as the words leave it. I need to work on thinking about what I say before I actually say it. I’ve never run into this problem before until Hunter. It seems I don’t have a filter whenever he’s around.
“I hadn’t heard that one, but I suppose when you’re never seen with a woman that might be a fair assumption. Did they suggest I’m with Marco? That will piss his fiancé off.” Hunter lets out a chuckle. I turn my head to peek over at Marco. He rolls his eyes.
“So you’re not?”
“He’s so not my type. In any way,” Marco states, causing Hunter to send him a scathing glare.
“No, I’m just a busy man.” Hunter brings his focus back to me.
“One who’s addicted to work,” Marco adds in for good measure.
“I get it. I work a lot too.” Though I don’t think Hunter needs the money.
“You work too much.” Hunter rests his hand on my shoulder, his thumb stroking the column of my neck. I notice he enjoys touching me. But what surprises me is how much I enjoy it as well.
“I have to work.” Never have I uttered a truer statement.
“Not if you have someone to take care of you. A husband.”
“It’s not like I can pick one up at the store or something,” I joke. But Hunter doesn’t laugh one bit or even crack a smile. His hold on my shoulder tightens, though.
“I want to be the one to take care of you. I need a wife to get my family to leave me alone. It would take care of the gossip too.” I open and close my mouth a few times, surprised by his words. Why would he want to care for me? None of this is making sense.
“I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard for you to find one.” It’s on the tip of my tongue to tell him that his stepsister, Charlotte, would jump at the offer, but jealousy bubbles up inside me, and I keep my mouth sealed on that front. I know I have to tread lightly considering she’s my boss as well. I wouldn’t want anything I said to ever get back to her.
