Andi bounces, fists bunched in excitement. “Dude! This is so freaking exciting!” She starts karate chopping the air and does a little stunted kick.

I laugh. “Easy. You’re going to hurt yourself. Just go get them.”

She rushes off to find the girls and I wait for them in Caroline’s office.

It only takes about two minutes to spill an abbreviated version of everything that has happened so far. Caroline asks how big Nolan’s penis was about five times. Andi keeps her belly’s ears plugged, but watches and listens with wide eyes. Paisley covers her mouth about halfway through and her hands are still up when I’ve finished.

“I can’t believe you boned the boss!” Paisley said. “That’s so awesome. Was it… you know. Good?” she wiggles her eyebrows.

“How big was it?” Caroline asks again.

“Would you chill?” I say, whispering and motioning for them to lower their voices.

“Can I take his earmuffs off?” Andi asks.

“Of course it was good. And it was definitely big enough, Caroline. That’s all you're getting.”

Caroline folds her arms and shrugs.

“Where was it?” Paisley asks. “You said it was in the restaurant, right? Did you guys like… sanitize the area after? Or am I going to find butt-prints on the prep table?”

I laugh, as if that’s a crazy question and a crazy assumption. I also make a frantic mental note to be the first one in on Monday so I can maybe wipe away any potential butt prints on the prep table. The last thing I need is to be caught by the shape of my cheeks by Zander. Also, for the sake of sanitary things, it would be a good idea to give the area a thorough disinfecting.

“We should get back out there,” I say. “People are going to wonder where we are.”

“No, no, no,” Caroline says, grabbing me and pulling me before I can flee. “The people will wait for their queen of games.” She makes a dramatic gesture before pointing to herself. “And the queen of games demands more details. What happens next? I need to know.”

“I wish I knew,” I say quickly, as if that’s that.

“What do you want to happen? Is this going to be a recurring thing?” Paisley asks.

“I don’t know,” I say. “It wasn’t like we got out our calendars afterward and penciled each other in for bone-sesh-number-two. We just kinda… didn’t say anything, got dressed, and went our separate ways.”

“Wow,” Andi says. “So mysterious. What do you think he’ll do on Monday?”

“Probably work?” I suggest. “We’re adults. It was a little fornication.”

Caroline snorts. “Fornication? Girl. You just went straight from ‘adult’ to the nursing home with that word choice.”

I grin. “A little sex,” I say. “Is that better?”

“More like you got dicked up, down, sideways, and into next week,” Caroline says. “I thought you were limping a little. Now I know why.”

“I was not limping.”

“There was a little bit of a limp,” Paisley says, smirking as she rests her chin on her fist. “It must’ve been pretty big.”

“Don’t listen to them, little baby,” Andi coos to her belly. “If you’re a boy, this is totally not how girls will talk about you. If you’re a girl… well. Welcome to a preview of the kinds of conversations you’ll have about boys.”

“Are we done yet?” I ask.

“For now,” Caroline says. “The queen of games probably shouldn’t keep her subjects waiting forever.”

I make it through most of the game without incident. Pretty much, I just have to stand there, rotate the little machine, and then pluck out a ping pong ball. I give the ball to Paisley and she announces the number.

It goes like this for about twenty minutes, and then Carter and Maddox offer to take over me and Paisley’s role “so we can get a round in.” Paisley jumps at the chance.

I smile, thank the guys, and then realize with a sinking stomach that the full room means the only place to sit is right between Jake and Nolan.

I try to drift to the side of the room, thinking maybe I can just stand up. But Paisley gives me a look and tugs my arm toward the table. “Hi,” she says, smiling.

“Wow,” Jesse says, looking between me and Nolan. “You two are trying so hard not to look at each other. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you hooked up.”

Paisley is mid-sip on a glass of water. She sucks in a sharp breath, choking and coughing as she covers her mouth. “Sorry,” she manages.

Jake is cocking his head now, looking between us. “He’s right. What did you guys do?”

“Nothing,” I say, beyond irritated that Jesse and Jake are reading the situation so easily.

Nolan is showing no emotion.

“Maybe we shouldn’t make it more awkward for them than it already is,” Liam suggests.

Jake looks serious as he studies Nolan. “Or maybe our teammate could be open with us for a change.”
