Reaching the address she had been given, she was surprised to find it was a very austere brick building. It almost looked abandoned. A sense of foreboding came over her and she almost left, but a car pulling up alongside her caught her attention. An older man got out and went inside. She didn’t get much of a look at him, but he had a certain air about him. Was that him? Was that the potential match? Her curiosity overrode her fears and she stepped out of the car, making her way inside.

At first, she thought she was in the wrong place. There was nothing on the walls. There was no decor at all. Looking around it was all black, without even a window. She found herself second guessing being here, once again. A scraping noise behind her caused her to jump and turn toward it. She saw a small window opening to show a young blonde girl sitting on the other side.

“Do you have a card?” the girl asked.

“Card?” Constance asked.

“Yes. You were told to bring a card with you.”

“Oh. Right. The business card,” Constance replied, digging it out of her pocket and handing it to the girl.

“Be with you in just a moment,” the girl told her.

The window closed before Constance could say another word and she stood awkwardly in the blackened room, looking around with a perplexed expression. Finally, an opening in a side wall appeared, along with an older woman in a business suit on the other side.

“Matthew 6:34?” the woman asked.

“What?” Constance replied. “Oh. From the card. Yes.”

“Come with me,” the woman told her.

Constance followed her through the opening as the panel closed behind them. Walking down a hallway, the woman stopped and turned, motioning for her to enter a nearby office. Inside, there was only a desk and a chair. She was disappointed to find no signs of the man she had seen entering the building. While she hadn’t gotten a good look at his face, he was tall and well built.

“First, I need to finish explaining to you what is expected of you and then you’ll need to sign some paperwork before we introduce you to the client.”

“Okay,” Constance replied in a shake voice.

“Don’t be nervous, Constance. I know this is a lot to deal with, but from what you’ve told me about your situation, it may be just what you need to start over.”

“I just want my girls to have a fair chance.”

“Yes, I know. You deserve a fair chance, as well, though. I know that half a million isn’t a fortune when you have three small girls to care for, but it is enough to start a new life away from the unhappiness you’ve experienced. Invest some of it in yourself and you’ll be a whole new person.”

Constance nodded, trying to hold back the emotional tears that welled up. Even a stranger showed more concern for her than her own husband or anyone else in her circle. It was a bit overwhelming being on the verge of escaping the misery her life had become.

“Okay, let’s talk about the details then. Our client needs a family, an immediate family. He has been estranged from his pack for quite some time but needs to go back to claim his rightful place as their Alpha. He’s never been married and has no children, so he needs an Omega to act as his wife and allow him to claim her children are his own in order for his pack to allow him back. Time is of the essence, as his father recently passed and his brother is trying to take over instead.”

“If he left his pack, why doesn’t he just let his brother handle it?”

“That’s a discussion between the two of you if he chooses to share, but I’ve given you the basics. Your children are small enough that there won’t be any issues with them letting anything slip and you’re not required to do anything beyond your personal persona with him. In private, you have complete freedom to do as you wish, within reason. You cannot do anything that might cast suspicion that you are anything but a happy wife and mother.”

“So, essentially, I’m getting half a million dollars and all expenses paid for six months to a year for playing June Cleaver?”

“Yes. That’s the sum of it. Does it sound like something you want to do?”

“Yes,” Constance replied without hesitation.

“All right, well I’m going to bring the client in so that the two of you can discuss things further while I work on your paperwork. You and the girls will all be assigned new identities and all the documentation you need to prove them to anyone, including government officials.”

“Thank you,” Constance said meekly.

“You are more than welcome, Constance. I’m glad that we can help you,” the woman said.
