“Oh, dear God.” I cursed.
“Yes.” Max nodded seriously. “He hears my prayers, so glad you guys are together, great essay by the way Ace, I never told you that, it’s why I hired you, funny how it was so closely related to Bri’s. You truly were a match made in Heaven.” He snapped his fingers. Making both of us jump “Oh also no pets in the penthouse, last time the gecko escaped and the dog down the hall almost ate him. He’s in therapy; thank you for your looks of concern, Little G’s a fighter though.”

“DIRT!” Max yelled and pointed at the very clean windowsill. “Dustin, I warned you about the dirt.”
Dustin ran toward the window and pulled out a weird wand and waved it over the dirt, then in Max’s face, was it ionic?
“Maybe he just likes torture?” Bri asked.
I sighed. “It’s all he knows, it’s like his comfort blanket now, poor bastard.”
We held hands and walked out to the elevators. I stopped and looked down at our hands, joined side by side. “Hey Bri, thanks for being with me like this.”
Bri frowned. “What do you mean?”
I stopped and looked down at our hands and then at her and said, “By your side, where I’ve always wanted to be, but I have to warn you, I’m a bit competitive now.” I started to inch forward. “First person in the shower wins.”
She inched forward too.
And when we got into the hall, I ran.
