I grin. “Don’t want me sharing undies with your husband?” I tease.

While reaching into the dryer, he flips me off with his visible hand. We’re both smiling.

Farrow pulls out a handful of jumbled clothes. Tearing off a lime-green thong from his Third Eye Blind shirt, he gives me an only with you look.

I laugh. “You forget I’m straight?”

“You forget I’m gay?”

“Nah, it’s my twenty-eighth favorite thing I know about you.”

Farrow chucks Luna’s thong at me. “That high?”

“The other twenty-seven things are just your music preferences.”

His laugh fills the laundry room, and he flips me off again. I catch another pair of panties he tosses at me.

Farrow peels off a mesh neon pink thong from a sock. “Did these get mixed in or are you doing her laundry for her?”

“I asked if she had anything dirty she needed washed.” I set the folded laundry on the marble counter behind me. “It’s not a big deal.”

He flings the mesh thong at me. “You ever think we’d be with siblings?”

I snatch it out of the air and shake my head. “Odds seemed pretty low.”

“I’ve dated guys who had sisters,” Farrow reminds me. “It wasn’t that low.”

I keep shaking my head. “It’d make everything more complicated if I did that. Whoever you were with—they wouldn’t want me around if I hooked up with their sister.”

I didn’t care about falling in love as much as I cared about keeping Farrow in my life. When I was seventeen, he was the best thing that ever happened to me, and I don’t even know if he fully understood it.

‘Cause I never made a big thing out of it either. I preferred it that way. But this year, we’ve been talking about it more than we usually do.

Farrow sweeps me in thought. “That’s why I knew you really liked Luna.” He separates Maximoff’s gym clothes into a basket. “You never jeopardized our friendship over anything. Not until her.”

Yeah. But he never put up a stink about it. “You always liked me and her together,” I realize.

He nods with a smile. “You’re good for each other.”

I grin back. “Or you hoped I’d marry into the Hales so I could be your brother for life. You wanted me stuck on you.”

He rolls his eyes. “You don’t need to marry my husband’s sister for that to be true.” He raises and lowers his brows at me like it’s a simple fact. We’re family. I’m not exiting his life stage right.

It’s not so simple to me. Seeing as how I’m getting the feeling I might never get married. “That’s good since I don’t think Luna wants to marry me.”

His face just falls. “She said that?”

I lift my shoulders stiffly. “I could see it in her eyes.”

“Okay, but if she didn’t say it, then you don’t know what she’s actually thinking. You need to have a full-blown conversation with her.”

“I know she doesn’t wanna talk about it, and I can’t blame her when I haven’t even told her a major part of my past that I’d like to burn up, honestly.” Guilt festers. “It feels like I should’ve said something a long time ago, especially the more we have sex.”

Farrow frowns. “You never told her you turned tricks?”

“Nope.” I lean back on the counter. “Now it feels worse that I kept it from her. Like oh yeah, Luna, by the way, I’ve been paid to fuck girls and blow dudes before…” I trail off as the laundry door opens.

Luna’s dad enters.

Farrow and I instantly go quiet.

Lo’s attention descends to his daughter’s thong in my hand. And I don’t say a word about it. He grabs a bottle of Tylenol out of the medicine cabinet. “For the headache you’re giving me.”

“Don’t forget the tissues,” I tell him and point to the Kleenex on the third shelf. “For the tears you’ll shed when I’m gone.”

“Of joy.” He flashes a half-smile, then says to both of us, “Breakfast is done, son-in-law and whoever you are.”

I grin. “Dementia’s already setting in?”

Farrow laughs into a wider smile.

Lo goes to the door. “You wish you could reach my age.”

My smile softens. “Yeah, I do.”

“You will,” is all he says before leaving.

I look to Farrow. “Think I’m warming up to him.”

“You’re definitely becoming his favorite.” He says it seriously.

“We’re getting there,” I laugh. “Anything is possible, kids. Just gotta put a little heart into it.” I twirl her panties on my finger, then clutch them in thought. “Have you ever fucked Maximoff to help him fall asleep?”

His brows lift. “That came out of fucking left field.”

“Nah, been thinking about it.”

“About me fucking my husband?”

“About how it was four a.m. and Luna was still wide-awake and she specifically wanted to have sex so she could fall asleep.”

Farrow slows his movements, shutting the dryer door. “She was having trouble falling asleep again?”

I nod. “Now that she has her memories back from that night, they keep her up sometimes.” I’m glad she was honest and open about it with me. “I get wanting to have sex to relax, but I’d already made her come four times around midnight.”
