“I’d rather it be inside me.” Her voice is so soft, I almost miss it. But yeah, I heard. Bionic ears and all, and I recognize the origin alright. It’s not crumbling me.

I’d rather it be inside me. I repeat her words in my head, and blood rushes straight down to my cock. Fuck. I hold Luna’s gaze more than I check out her body. Her desire is fisting me. “One day,” I breathe, voice huskier with arousal.

Flush ascends her neck, and her knees knock together, her ankles crossing.

I grin. Yeah, I speak Luna’s sex language, that’s for fucking sure. I think she speaks mine too. I’m trying to force myself not to pick her up. Not to put her on the kitchen counter. Not in the Hale House. Not again. Respect—I’m trying to be better about it.

“Soon?” she whispers. I can see she’s eager. She’s been eager. I’m the one pumping the brakes—and part of me thinks I shouldn’t. Part of me thinks I should keep stalling.

I’m torn. “I dunno, maybe.”

“What if the Eagles win?” she wonders. “Would you want celebratory sex?”

I start to smile again. “If I wasn’t your pseudo-first, I’d say yes.”

“Losing my pseudo-virginity after the Eagles win the Super Bowl sounds like the best pseudo-first time though.”

“Not denying that.” Our eyes fasten for a hot beat like we’re both considering it. Then her attention swings to the kitchen’s breakfast table, and blood drains right from her face.

The table is circular and farmhouse style.

It’s also brand new.

We saw it when we arrived, but now that we’re alone in the kitchen, it’s erected a new wave of tension.

“We have to pay for the table,” Luna declares, just as the pull on our skin gives under the warm, soapy water. Now detached, I take a couple strained steps back.

“I’ll pay,” I offer. “It was my idea.” I’d do just about anything to absolve Luna’s guilt.

She shakes her head and wipes her wet hands on a dish rag. “I didn’t say no that night. It’s not all on you. My mom should be around here…” Her parents weren’t in the living room earlier, but they aren’t in the kitchen either. “We can do this together.”

I nod, down for the idea. “Only one problem.”

“What?”

“Your mom hasn’t been able to look me in the eye since December.”

Her shoulders slacken. “Then maybe it’s time to confront her.”

“You sure?” My chest tightens as I visualize Lily shoving me out of the house again. Don’t know if I can take that happening twice.

Luna nods repeatedly. “I don’t want you to feel like you’re on pins and needles around my mom. She probably doesn’t want that either. This could all be one big miscommunication.”

“Yeah, alright.” I dry my hands on a dishtowel. Cheering ignites from the living room, and the pressure on my chest heavies tenfold.

I instinctively stare at the door, towards the source of the noise. Luna follows my gaze, and I can’t be sure if I look distraught. I just don’t know the next time the Eagles will be at the Super Bowl.

She pokes me in the shoulder, which captures my attention in a snap, and I’m smiling. I almost ask her to poke me again.

“You go watch the game,” she says sternly, like an order. “It’s a necessity.”

“Nah, me making you come is a necessity.” I grin more off her rosy cheeks. “We both need it and want it. This, though—it’s just a want, space babe.”

“But—”

“I’m coming with you. The game is…” Can’t say unimportant. Can’t say I won’t miss it. “It’s only the second quarter.”

“We’ll have you back in a jiffy. Promise.” She raises her pinky.

I hook her pinky with mine, then with the other hand, I clasp her cheek and go in for a promise on her planet. She’s already smiling as we touch the tips of our tongues. My love for her explodes in me, detonating the pressure on my chest.

I ease the promise into a hotter kiss, causing her back to thump into the kitchen cabinets. I bear my weight against her, our tongues wrestling and lips melding. Her body trembles against my flexed muscles like she’s on the verge of a climax. Fuck, Luna. I clasp the back of her skull, and I have to stop.

Stop.

I break apart, both of us out of breath.

I’m hard as a rock and adjust myself in my jeans.

She lifts her gaze off my crotch to say, “A promise on your planet and mine.”

I start smiling. “Double the promise, double the fun.” I throw up an I love you sign and swallow the arousal out of my throat. “Where to?”

She scans the empty kitchen and half-eaten bowls of salsa and French onion dip. “Uh, I think my mom might be in the garage. We store extra pantry items out there.” Yeah, I’ve seen the shelves with cases of Fizz Life and mounds of toilet paper. Comes with raising four kids and hosting parties.
