She’d been hauled away from the cabin by a CIA agent she’d never met before who informed her that her father had been killed. She could still remember how vulnerable she’d felt. How she’d wished Drake had been there to hold her.

That was when the interrogations about why her father had been in Havana had started.

Since Mr. Gray wasn’t able to get the information from you in a nicer way, I’m going to have to ask outright, the agent had explained.

Drake had used her, and she wouldn’t allow herself to ever be used again.

She’d agreed to this mission for one reason and one reason only—revenge.

If she survived this mission, she would be out and she would never have to worry about running into that fucker. She would leave Virginia and start her life all over.

Alone.

“I meant are you ready to meet the Agency manager for this op?” Kimberly Solomon Kent was a gorgeous blonde who’d been an operative for years before she’d gone on the run. She’d been burned by another operative, and it had taken years to get her life back.

She understood the woman who’d formerly been known as Solo. It was precisely why she’d been willing to let Solo advise her. “I thought Brad Perry was working this one. He’s the agent who’s signed off on what I’ve done up to this point.”

“Up to this point, the whole op has mostly been on paper, but apparently there’s a more senior agent coming in now that you’re getting in deep,” Kim explained. “You’re still working for Brad, but from what I understand your op is bumping up against something that happened recently, so you’ll have to deal with two chefs in the kitchen. It’s not ideal and I wasn’t informed who’s coming in, so I’m working in the dark. All I know is Brad is going to be here and he’ll explain how the two missions coincide. I do know one of the guys who’s working the other side is already here.”

“The brooding hottie who hates washing dishes?” Taylor sighed and sank down to the couch. “I think I’d rather take Sandra in with me. She did some work for the Agency, right?”

“No, she worked for McKay-Taggart and MT worked for the Agency. In as much as Big Tag ever works for the Agency.” Kim sat down across from her. “You got the dossier on him, right? Because he’s going to be here tomorrow for the overall debrief. The hottie is his nephew. When you go to Europe to meet with the target, you’ll be using Tag’s team as backup. Brad is worried there’s a leak at the Agency. I’m worried about it, too. What happened to your father wasn’t an accident, and that’s why I think you should consider what you’re about to do.”

“I’ve read the dossier on Taggart, and my father liked him very much. He also trusted Tennessee Smith, who works for him, too. I don’t know if he worked with Damon Knight, but if Smith and Taggart work with him, I can as well.” She’d had to consider every single step she’d taken since that day she’d learned her father was dead. “But I’m not sure about his nephew. He’s a hot mess.”

And she did mean hot. Kyle Hawthorne was gorgeous, not that she allowed herself to be swayed by a nice set of abs and a killer jawline anymore.

“I’ve been told there’s a good reason he’s assigned to this case,” Kim explained. “He was involved with the target at one point. He and the agent working the case with Brad. There have been a few events that have taken place recently that forced the Agency to up the timeline on the other guy’s op and bring in extra handlers for you, but he’s going to have to explain. I don’t have clearance for this anymore. I’m strictly supposed to make sure you’re comfortable and to get you here without incident.”

Kim had agreed to leave her husband and son so she could make sure Taylor got where she needed to go. “I appreciate it. You can’t know how much.”

“Well, I owe your dad. He saved my ass several times over the years. He would be proud of you. This is one of the more brilliant plays I’ve ever seen. I’m interested to see how this works out,” Kim said with a hint of a smile on her face. “Besides, there are a couple of guys I can’t wait to see again. Since you want to keep the amount of Agency assets used to a minimum, we’re bringing in some Taggart-approved guys.”

Taylor knew about that, too. “Yes. One of the people I’m supposed to steal data from in order to prove myself is married to an ex-Taggart employee, so I thought bringing in his old friends would make Owen Shaw feel more comfortable. And his wife, Rebecca, of course. She’s been thoroughly briefed about the fact that I’ll have to run an op around her research.”
