He sped up and the room filled with the sound of our bodies slapping together, my soft panting and the growls he made low in his throat. I could feel the climax building, a ball of raw heat that burned brighter and denser with each hard thrust. It grew until it was all I could think about, until it ruled my whole body and I was a moaning, panting mess, weak with pleasure. I began to pull at his ass: just a little faster!

But he held back. And then, suddenly, I could see him. The moon had finally broken through the clouds and a shaft of light was lancing through the window and lighting him up, making him look like a statue cast from pure silver. I saw his lips twist into a grin and his eyes twinkled. He loved that he could do this to me, hold me on the very edge while staying in control. And before tonight, I would have waited.

But something had changed. He’d let something loose inside me, and it wouldn’t wait.

I reached up, gripped his shoulders and rolled us. I saw him blink in surprise and then he went with it, rolling over onto his side and then his back. As I came to rest astride him, he shifted deeper inside me and I let out a moan, palms pressed against his chest, momentarily lightheaded.

Then I began to ride him, pushing against his chest, my hips rising and falling. Now I could control the rhythm and I sped up, unconsciously grinding in circles as I got closer and closer. Gabriel cursed and then gave a low chuckle, as if he was delighted at what he’d unleashed.

I moved faster, moaning and arching my back like a cat as the pleasure ratcheted tighter and tighter: I was seconds away now. When I glanced down at him, he was looking up at me in wonder. I looked over at the window and realized that the moonlight had grown stronger: the whole bed was bathed in silver now, and he was staring up at my naked breasts. For a second, I went shy, feeling huge and awkward. But then I saw the look in his eyes: he was just eating me up in big, ravenous bites—my face, my hair, my breasts—and my chest swelled with pride.

He pushed aside the tresses of dark hair that were hanging down and palmed my breasts, squeezing gently. His voice was shaky with lust: he was as out of control as I was. “Olivia,” he whispered.

I bounced atop him, unable to speak, the climax tightening and tightening and—

It exploded, roaring through me and obliterating everything except him and me. My hips became a blur as I rode the wave, and then he groaned and lunged upwards and I knew he was shooting, deep inside me. My fingers curled around his shoulders and I clung to him as I spasmed and shook around him. Then I slowly collapsed down onto him and put my head on his panting chest, and we lay like that until we fell asleep.

I woke up and looked down. Olivia was asleep, half on top of me. Her naked body was pressed against mine all the way from ankle to shoulder, one arm and one leg were thrown languidly across me and her head was resting on my chest.

It was without a doubt the best thing I’d ever felt.

I glanced at the window. The sky outside had turned from black to deep blue. I figured dawn was about an hour away.

In one hour, the chopper would come. Soon after that, we’d be back at the airfield and I’d slip away forever.

I looked down at Olivia. What have I done?! I’d tried so hard to resist because I knew how much it would hurt her, if I slept with her and then left. But when I’d seen her so scared and defenseless the night before, there’d been this overwhelming, protective urge…

This went way beyond just lust now. I was having feelings I didn’t dare give a name to.

The last thing I wanted to do was hurt her but now I was going to do exactly that. I’d disappear and it would destroy her.

I couldn’t just leave. But what other choice did I have?

I could stay. Give up the gold and stay with the team.

No. Unacceptable. I’d sweated and bled for that money. I’d spent three years of my life locked in a cage. I wasn’t going to give it up now. Plus, the idea of working for Kian, of fighting the good fight…

I looked down at Olivia’s sleeping face. She was snoring: tiny, peaceful snores, like a kitten would make. She thought I was still the Marine who fights for what’s right. But I wasn’t that guy anymore.

I couldn’t stay. But I couldn’t abandon her, either.
