Watching her fall apart is a beautiful thing.

And I’ll be the only one who gets to do it for the rest of my life.

Chapter 40

Fallyn

The bar is packed as I slip through the crowd with a tray full of drinks. Tonight’s game ended in a tie. None of the players are particularly happy about it but it’s better than a loss.

As soon as I reach the table of rowdy hockey players, I pass out the bottles of cold beer and the shots that were ordered. Once all the drinks have been distributed, Wolf pulls me onto his lap and nuzzles my neck.

“I can’t wait to get you alone tonight, angel.”

Thoughts of exactly what that entails drift through my head.

“Mmm, me neither.”

He nips my ear, tugging on the lobe. When I giggle and attempt to escape, he sets me free. The man loves to rile me up at work so that I’m begging for it by the time we walk through the apartment door.

I twist on his lap and press my lips to his, inhaling his woodsy scent. Then I pull away just enough to slip my fingers beneath his sweatshirt and trail them over the newest tattoo added to his collection.

I still can’t believe he asked me to marry him.

We haven’t told anyone yet. Not even Viola, who I share almost everything with. For now, I just want it to be our little secret. If Wolf had his way, we’d get hitched immediately. I’m not sure how long I want to wait. Maybe we’ll tie the knot after graduation this spring.

For now, I’m just enjoying the beginning of our relationship.

Even though I’d much rather stay with him, I joke, “I should get moving. Those drinks aren’t going to deliver themselves.”

With a groan, Wolf tugs me closer before burying his nose against the delicate curve of my neck. “I’ve already told you that you don’t have to work here. Whatever you need, I’m happy to give you.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve had this conversation. And it probably won’t be the last. “I know and appreciate the offer, but I like working at Slap Shotz.” Even though I haven’t had the job for long, all the employees feel like family. And we take care of each other.

Plus, it’s nice to have my own money that I don’t have to ask anyone for.

Not my parents.

Or Wolf.

I know he’d give me the shirt off his own back if I needed it, but I want to pay my own way. At least as much as I can. Now that I’ve had a little taste of independence, I like it.

Want more of it.

My lips drift over his as I whisper, “I’m also going to pay you back.”

“That’s not necessary.”

“Still happening. Even if it takes years.”

“Fine,” he grumbles. “Whatever you want, angel.”

I rise to my feet in one swift movement before leaning down and pressing one last kiss against his lips. “I’ll be back in a bit to check on you.”

“Better be. Otherwise, I’ll have to hunt your ass down.” His eyes glow with green fire. “And you know what will happen then.”

His gruff promise has a shiver racing down my spine. It settles somewhere in the vicinity of my core.

On more than one occasion, he’s dragged me off to Sully’s office before locking us away and reminding me exactly who I belonged to.

And yeah…I loved every single minute of it.

With a smile, I take off, stopping by the tables in my section and filling orders. As I wait at the bar, Juliette, Carina, Viola, Stella, and Britt stop by. There are hugs all the way around. We had a girls’ night out last weekend and danced the night away at Blue Vibe. It was so much fun. Then I went home to Wolf, and he made love to me.

Slowly.

Twice.

“Hey, Fallyn.”

I turn at the sound of my name and find Colby McNichols. He’s a talented left winger who gets lots of love from the ladies on campus.

He flashes a dazzling grin before jerking his head toward the group of rowdy hockey players. “Would you mind bringing a round of shots to our table when you get a chance?”

His smile almost has the power to turn my insides to mush. I blink away the sensation before shaking it off.

They don’t call him the baby-faced assassin for nothing.

Especially when his dimples pop.

The man is completely dangerous.

And he knows it.

That’s all it takes for me to narrow my eyes. “Put those damn things away before you get yourself killed.” I glance toward Wolf and find him watching the interaction with interest.

Colby grins before glancing at my boyfriend, who also happens to be one of his good friends.

“What’s wrong? A little harmless flirting never hurt anyone.”

I snort. “Wanna bet? I’d hate to see you miss the rest of the season because all your bones have been broken.”
