“That’s my girl. Come all over me, baby. Just like that.”

It doesn’t take long for him to growl my name and begin to release into the condom.

We’re both slick and sweaty. I kiss his lips and smile at him. I look over my shoulder at the mess he made when he cleared the table.

“You know I could have taken the dishes to the kitchen,” I pant.

“I didn’t have patience for that. I’ve wanted you from the time you walked in the door.”

“Well, my friend. This was the best first date I’ve ever had.”

He laughs and it vibrates through me as he’s still semihard inside me.

He kisses my lips. “I promise to do better.”

“You’re not doing so bad. I don’t think I was much help.”

“Um, if I were any other guy, I would have to hear about this in the morning. The guy who couldn’t keep his hands off you and fucked you on the first date instead of watching the movie and feeding you a real dessert.”

We both laugh. “Okay, I get your point, but still, I’m not complaining.”

He pulls me in for a kiss. “Which is why I’ll always overdeliver. I don’t want to become complacent because of who we are to each other. I really wish you would have talked to me about how you were feeling back then.”

I think back to five years ago. I knew something was changing in his life. I didn’t want to burden him with my drama. Little does he know. He saved the day regardless.

Chapter 15

Power Plays

Frances

“Can I get you anything else to eat, honey?” Sylvia asks as she places a plate of lunch before me.

I look up at her and those red locks that enticed me to her all those years ago. She’s still a stunning woman. Gorgeous enough to make a man stupid.

“No, I need to get back to the house. Dario’s coming by and Giuseppe is in town.”

“Humph, why does that man have to stay with you whenever he’s here?”

“Sylvia,” I snap.

She throws her hands up in the air. I understand how she feels in all of this. My sins have fallen on my sons tenfold, and still I know the worst has yet to come.

The stress and guilt have eaten through my stomach for years. However, I’m not about to argue about the matter. We were all wrong.

“Why the fuck won’t Dario answer my calls?” My father bellows as he strolls into the dining room of Sylvia’s home as if it were his.

I bite back a groan. I don’t need this shit. I come here for peace. My father is going to get me killed someday with his bullshit. I’ve been doing damage control for over twenty-six years. Make that more like forty-three.

I’m tired and at my wits’ end. Honestly, I think it’s all in vain. Somehow, I get the feeling my father has outmatched me and I’ve missed key things that could cause this all to come down on my head.

I grunt. “How am I supposed to know? He’s your pet. You said you had things under control. He listens to you, no?”

“Don’t get smart with me, you little son of a bitch. I wouldn’t be in this position if it weren’t for you.”

“Right, because you had nothing to do with all of this in the first place.”

He places a hand over his heart. “Me? You’re pointing the finger at me.”

I stand and slam my hands on the table. I’ve had enough of this.

“Yes, you, you are the one who—”

My phone rings, cutting my words off. I look down at it and see it’s Bethany. Yet, another issue my father has made for me. I roll my eyes and answer, readying myself to empty my pockets to make my father’s mess go away.

“Hello,” I grunt into the phone.

“Dad, you won’t believe what Dante has done to me. I’m so embarrassed.”

“What has he done?”

“I’m at the dealership and I ran my card for the new truck I’m trying to purchase, but he told the bank to deny the purchase and closed my card. This is humiliating.”

“Listen, calm down and relax. Is the truck really necessary?”

“It is if you and my parents want me to keep my mouth shut.” Her entire demeanor has changed. Gone is the frantic, innocent act and the real Bethany has appeared.

I look to my father and scowl. I’m disgusted by what I’m being forced into. I wish the entire Kumar family would disappear. No, I wish I never listened in the first place and introduced them to Dante. That one is one of my biggest regrets.

“Fine, put me on the phone with finance. I’ll pay for the truck, but I don’t know how much longer you’re going to get away with this. Dante is going to start to ask why I’m the one you always run to.”
