Mommy says I care too much, I do things for people they won’t do for themselves. I don’t see it that way. If I can make things better for someone else, I’ll do all I can to see them happy. I don’t want to see them be denied happiness if I can help it.

I get things faster than most, so I try to be there to right things before they fall apart. It’s my thing. I love to restore things for others. However, sometimes I can go too far and lose myself to the point I’m taken advantage of by those who don’t care as much for me.

It’s something I hate and love. When you mix that with my need to excel at everything I touch, I can get lost. It’s frustrating at times. I always realize what I’m doing too late.

“I know you can’t help it, but you’ve never checked it with Dario, not like with the rest of us. I think that’s what’s pissing your family off. Anyway, I’ve got to go. I’ll call you as soon as I can. Bye, best.”

“Bye, Blake. I love you, best.”

We hang up and I sit staring off into space. Being a sponge as my mother calls it is a gift and a curse. However, not once have I ever noticed that I’ve done so with my best friend. Blake’s words make a lot more make sense for me.

“But what do I do from here? I’m not cutting my best friend from my life,” I yawn to myself.

Dario

I walk into my home wound tight with a headache trying to form. I still have more questions than answers. Not to mention, I’m acting like a pussy because I’ve yet to tell Carleen I’m leaving the morning after Christmas.

I rub the back of my neck and drag my tired body into my bedroom. The first thing I note is that Carleen isn’t in my bed. My anger rises because this is what I’ve been looking forward to all night. Coming home to my woman and wrapping her in my arms.

The last time we texted she said she was going to call it a night. I grumble to myself and hop in the shower. She must be in the guest room.

“This is on me. Get your shit together before you lose her,” I murmur to myself as I stand in the shower. I push my hair out of my face and throw my head back as I stare up at the ceiling.

None of this is her fault. I’m just so fucking stressed. I went to pick up Car’s Christmas gift and saw an engagement ring that’s meant to be on her finger. The impulse to place it there was so strong I bought it.

However, I’m not a total douchebag. With everything I have going on, it would be fucked up to propose before I leave. I think that’s weighing on me most.

I blow out a breath. At least she didn’t get pregnant that first night. I should have told her we had unprotected sex, but it sort of slipped my mind at first and then I didn’t think it was such a big deal as the weeks went by and we became a couple.

Needing to shut my brain down, I finish up and step out to towel off. It’s been a few weeks since the last time we had sex.

Not for lack of trying. Every time we get ready to, something comes up. My phone rings, we have to work, the list goes on and on.

What I need in this moment is to be buried so deep inside her, nothing else matters. One of her stellar blow jobs wouldn’t hurt either. I’d be more than happy to return the favor.

I stroll my naked ass out of my bedroom, headed to find my woman so we can do all of the above. Hearing movement in the kitchen when I get to the end of the hall, I switch directions from the guest room and head toward the noise.

When I enter the kitchen, I find Carleen in a hot-pink teddy with a glass of water in her hand. She lifts her gaze from the countertop and starts to choke as I saunter toward her with a grin on my lips.

I round the counter and she turns to face me, causing me to miss the review from the back. I stop and fold my arms over my chest. Carleen lifts a brow as a smile lifts her lips behind her glass. She empties the glass, keeping her eyes locked on me.

“Thirsty?”

She shrugs. “I was. You just get in?”

“Not that long ago. Why aren’t you in our bed?”

“It’s your bed and I wanted to give you your space.”

She turns to place her glass on the counter and her dark-chocolate ass comes into view. The way the pink fabric is swallowed between her plump round cheeks has me so hard my vision blurs for a moment.
