She’s right.

We spent our lives on that street being friends, even before we were lovers.

Charlie is gone, but she’s not.

For so many years, I thought she was, and it hurt. Now I have a chance to bring her back into my life, and I don’t want to give up that chance. Not completely, anyway. I have to respect Janine, but a phone call here and there is something I think we can all live with.

“I’d like that,” I say, and I mean it.

I picked Janine because she’s the way I want my future to go, but that doesn’t mean I can’t respect the past.

“Amazing. What do you reckon he’s thinking up there right now?”

I tip my head back again, grinning. “I think he’s jealous of just how good I look now.”

Harper laughs. “Oh, he’s definitely thinking that.”

Heart growing a little softer, I grin. “I think he’s proud. That’s what I think.”

“I think so, too. I’m glad we’re friends, Brian.”

“Me too, little flower.”

She laughs. “I guess I’ll talk to you soon.”

“Guess you will.”

Hanging up, I look back up at the moon.

Hope I made you proud, buddy.

Epilogue - Janine

“I’M PREGNANT.”

The girls, who are standing in front of me, squeal with delight.

Serenity makes it to me first, throwing her arms around my neck as she whoops with joy. Pulling back, I don’t get a breath before Addison has me, mumbling about how happy she is and how much she loves me. Then Ciara is clapping, jumping up and down on the spot telling me just how thrilled she is not to be the only one who can’t drink anymore.

Laughing, I place a hand on my belly. “Well, I guess we’ll have to be the sensible ones from now on.”

Addi grins at Serenity. “That leaves us to go wild while these two drive us around everywhere.”

“Hey,” Ciara scoffs. “I am nobody’s driver, woman.”

“Come on, it’ll be fun. Just think of all the trouble we can get into.”

“You’ve caused enough trouble this year,” I point out, smirking at Addison.

She waves her hand. “Not even. I’m not nearly done.”

“I think you were born to make trouble,” Serenity tosses at her. “You’re sending your father grey and he’s getting all moody and stuff.”

“Well, you picked an old man,” Addison teases.

“He’s not that old,” Serenity throws back.

Grinning, I shake my head at them.

“Has your friend found out anything more about Cade’s sister?” Ciara asks her, changing the subject.

“He is looking, but if Cade won’t give me more information, I won’t be able to tell him much. He won’t even tell me her name, so I’m going to be forced to snoop. It has to be somewhere.”

“I wonder why he won’t tell you her name,” I say, out loud.

“Because he doesn’t want me looking for her,” Addison fills me in. “He thinks she’s dangerous, or some crap, and he knows I’m like a dog with a bone, so I won’t give up until I have answers. If I don’t have her name, I can’t get answers.”

“I’m guessing that’s going well then?” Ciara chuckles.

“Not really,” Addi grins. “We haven’t had sex in over a week and he’s looking at me like he might just tie me down soon. I’m here for it, a bit of angry sex would be good right now.”

“You’re a devil,” Serenity laughs.

The guys come into the room, and I notice Cade’s eyes move to Addison. She doesn’t look at him, the stubborn woman she is. Instead, she sidles up next to Muff and grins. “I hear you’re going to be a daddy again, congrats. I hope it’s a girl so you can spend the rest of your life panicking about all the trouble she’ll get into. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to teach her how Auntie Addi rolls.”

“Jesus,” Muff mutters, but his eyes are dancing with humor. “I’ll make sure to keep you away from her.”

“Never!”

“You got a minute?” Cade asks, his face stern.

He is pissed. It’s not often I see Cade less than calm. He’s always chill and collected, but lately, he hasn’t been. It’s bugging him that Addison won’t give in to him, and I know she’s loving every second of it.

Addison finally looks at him.

I hate seeing them tense because they’re the best couple I know, but I also know until this is sorted out, nothing will change. They’re both as stubborn as each other, which means until one of them breaks, this will go on and on. I wonder who will cave first? My bets are on Cade because Addison is fire.

“I told you last night, Cade, I’m not talking to you until you agree to tell me your sisters name.”

“And I told you,” he grinds out, “that I ain’t tellin’ you a single fuckin’ thing about her because I don’t want this in my life. There is nothin’ to tell, Addison, now let it go.”
