“Look, I know I’m a little hard to take but this is who I am. You came to me remember? You’re the one that climbed into my bed. I had your blood on my cock and my sheets, you think I’m gonna just let you walk, think again.”

“Shh, keep your voice down.” She looked over her shoulder as if expecting her parents to be at the window listening or some shit.

“And that’s another thing. Where the fuck did you get the idea that I’d be okay sneaking around? You know what…”

I grabbed her hand and headed back towards the house. “What are you doing?” She tried taking her hand out of mine without much luck.

She hissed and spat like a cat until I opened the door and dragged her inside. Her parents were sitting in the den with the TV on but he was reading and she was knitting.

They both looked up when we walked in. “Oh hi Mr. Scott, we weren’t expecting company. What brings you here? Cassie offer our guest a drink.”

“That won’t be necessary, I won’t be staying long.”

I turned my attention to his wife. “I have a confession of sorts to make. Your daughter was not at a friend’s like she told you. She was with me. I’m in love with her and plan to marry her if she’d only give me two minutes to get my thoughts together.”

“Oh we already know dear, she told us that that’s where she was. Though she didn’t mention anything about getting married.”

“That’s because I’m not marrying him.”

“Oh you’re marrying me alright.” She’d taken some of the steam out of my sails. I hadn’t expected to hear that, that she’d come clean. “Listen we need to talk, I’m taking her with me.”

“You can’t just drag me off. Mom, dad, say something.”

“Didn’t you just spend the whole afternoon telling us how much you love him? And that you’re an adult and can make your own decisions?”

“Dad.” She hissed at him as I continued pulling her from the room.

“You love me huh.”

“Yeah well don’t let it go to your head. That was before I realized how much I hate you.”

“Nice story babe, now get in the truck.” Harley picked his head up and I don’t know what passed between those two but she stopped fighting me long enough to let me help her into the truck.

Braden

It’s the weirdest thing but as we drove back to my place I realized I didn’t quite know how to talk to her. It had been so long since I’d wooed anyone and what’s more since I’d had any real dealings with another human being other than my brother’s weekly calls, that I was a bit rusty.

“I’m not moving, let’s get that shit straight right fucking now. I like my place. I put a lot of blood and sweat in it and I’ll be damned if your prissy ass is going to have me living in some overpriced flop in the damn town with all those nosy ass people.”

“Who asked you?”

“Shut up and listen.” Pain in the fucking ass.

“If you have a problem you’re gonna have to speak up because I’m not a mind reader. If I do something you don’t like and you don’t tell me, if I do that shit again, that’s on you.”

“I’m not going to change anything about who I am, so if you have any delusions about turning me into some milksop that you can boss around think again.” I was driving like a bat outta hell to get out of town and back to my place. Like I expected her to jump out and run.

Once we reached the turnoff to my little mountain hideaway I was feeling at peace once more. Neither of us had said a word in the last ten minutes or so but I could see from the expression on her face out the corner of my eye, that she had plenty on her mind.

I waited until we were home and locked my nosy ass dog outside to turn to her again. “Now you can talk.” She kept her lips buttoned like she’d become a damn mute in the last half hour.

“Nothing to say? You seemed to have plenty to say to my brother.” I guess I gave away too much with my tone on that one because she gave me one of those nosy ass female on the scent looks.

“That’s because your brother is reasonable and easy to talk to.” That’s what she thinks. If she only knew the number of conversations I’ve had with my sister in law that sound pretty much like this one. Only in those my brother was the star of the show. Females!

“And I’m not? Tell me one thing you tried to talk to me about that I ignored.” She opened her mouth to lie because she knew damn well that she never brought it up.
