Of all the images that had flashed in my head as I'd made the short run to the house, none included Jett sitting calmly on the side of the bed as he fussed with a T-shirt. But that was exactly how I found him. He looked up in surprise as I practically fell into his room.

"Sawyer?"

Despite seeing him sitting there alive and well, my brain was still a step behind. I strode up to him and grabbed his face and held it in my hands as I examined his body, then I was searching the room for any signs that he’d done something unthinkable. The adrenaline had my body shaking as I dropped my hand so I could grab his and examine his wrist.

"Sawyer, what the—"

"You son of a bitch," I choked out in relief when I realized he was perfectly fine. I didn't know what to do with all the electricity that was firing through me as my body tried to recover from the shock. My instincts ended up taking over and before I could stop myself, I was covering his mouth with mine, swallowing down Jett's startled gasp in the process.

He was the sweetest thing I'd ever tasted. It was heaven and hell combined.

Until he took over the kiss.

And that was when I knew I was really in trouble.

CHAPTER TWELVE

JETT

I still had no clue what was happening, but I wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. And I definitely wasn't about to risk losing Sawyer’s for even a second. As his mouth moved over mine, I snaked my hand up to the back of his head and threaded my fingers through his hair. It was silky soft, but nothing compared to the lushness of his tongue. Sawyer groaned when our tongues danced together.

"Oh God," Sawyer breathed when he tore his mouth free of mine for the briefest of moments. I couldn't let him escape though. Especially not now. I'd had a taste and there was no going back from that. I dragged him back down for another kiss. I fully expected him to resist or try to pull away, but to my surprise, he pushed into my arms and wrapped his own around me. I didn't think it could get any better, but then Sawyer was climbing on top of me so his thighs were straddling my lap. It put him slightly above me, but it also gave me full access to the length of his back. As we consumed each other, I ran my fingers down his spine, not stopping when I reached the top of his ass. My body went up in flames as soon as I palmed his backside. It was so tight that I knew, just knew, it would positively strangle my cock when I got inside of him.

I was dimly aware of a ringing sound and then voices off in the distance, but it wasn't until someone let out a sharp "Oh shit, sorry guys" that the whole thing came crashing to an abrupt end.

I tore my mouth from Sawyer’s just in time to see Dallas covering little Newt's eyes and saying, "They're okay."

"Uncle Dallas, you said a bad word," Newt responded, his voice full of surprise.

"You're right, I did. Let's go find your jar." With that, the door to my bedroom slammed shut and I was left to deal with the deliciously rumpled man still sitting on my lap. It took several long beats before Sawyer came back to himself, but when he did, it was chaos. He nearly fell off my lap as he tried to escape my hold. I was forced to release him or take a tumble to the floor as he climbed off of me.

"Oh God, that didn't just happen."

Since I could still taste him on my tongue, I wanted to tell him it had most certainly happened, but I didn't get the chance. Sawyer took several steps back, his face flushed and his eyes wide. He put his fingers to his lips, those soft, perfect lips, and shook his head. He was completely horrified. It didn't bode well for me.

Sawyer turned away and strode for the door but stopped when he reached it. "You are such a fucking asshole!" he shouted.

"Sawyer," I began because I was still clueless what had sparked the entire encounter. One minute I'd been trying to get dressed, the next I'd had a lapful of gorgeous man.

"Shut up!" he snapped as he turned around. His eyes were wild as he ran his fingers through his hair. "Twelve hours ago you're telling me to put Apollo down because you don't give a shit about him or anyone else. Then this," he bit out as he stepped forward and swept a tablet off the floor. I recognized it as Newt's. It was what he'd used to film me that morning as I'd explained the different hand signals Sawyer and the others could use on the dog. Things started falling into place. But I still didn't understand his anger.
