“Yes,” Luna said.

“You’ll marry me?”

“Yes. I’ll marry you.”

He laughed, and she giggled as he took hold of her hand and slowly ran the ring up her finger, sliding it into place. “It fits.”

Luna cupped his face and kissed him. “It fits.”

Matthew kissed her back, and as he was about to nudge her back onto the bed, his cell phone chose that moment to ring. He growled.

“You’ve got to take that.”

“Yeah, I kind of have to.” He groaned and pulled out his cell phone, glancing down to see his father’s name on the screen. With Mac taken care of, he had hoped this would be the end of it for a while. He’d helped to clean up the clubhouse, and it no longer looked like the freaking cops had invaded.

“Yes, sir,” he said.

“I need you back at the clubhouse, ASAP.”

His father hung up, and Matthew frowned.

“I’ve … got to go,” he said.

“How about we go tell my folks that we’re engaged and I come with you?”

“I don’t know if you’re allowed.”

“I’ll stay on your bike. I won’t be a problem. Matthew, we just got engaged. I don’t want to be away from you just yet. Like you said, Mac is a bad shot, and my wound isn’t too bad. We’ll go slow.”

And the truth was, he didn’t want to be away from her either. Not after Mac, not after nearly losing her a second time.

“How do you think your folks are going to handle it?” he asked.

“I have no idea. They might be pissed that you snuck into my bedroom window, but we’ll handle it. You’re making an honest woman out of me.” She took his hand, and together, they headed downstairs to her living room where her parents sat.

The moment he entered the room, her father stood, and he looked mightily pissed. “What is he doing in my house?”

“Dad, Mom, we’ve got something we need to tell you,” Luna said. She held her hand out for her mother to see. “We’re engaged.”

“Oh, my,” her mother got to her feet, a big smile on her face.

Her father cleared his throat.

“Don’t be like that. Our daughter is getting engaged.”

“Yeah, and look to who.”

Her mother shushed him up, and Matthew looked toward Luna’s father. The older man wasn’t happy. He was worried, and Matthew got it. He hadn’t exactly been a great guy when it came to his daughter.

“I promise you, if I hurt your daughter in any way, then I will let you beat the crap out of me,” Matthew said.

“Matthew, stop.”

“No. He’s your father. I won’t fight back.”

“Do you expect me to believe this?”

“Sir, I know what it is like to have hurt your daughter before. If you don’t take care of me, I’ll expect the guys back at the club to. I don’t want to hurt her or give her a reason to cry. She’s the love of my life, and I have no intention of messing this up.” He moved to Luna and locked their fingers together. “She’s mine as I’m hers.”

Her father shook his hand.

It was a deal. If he so much as hurt her, then he was coming for him. Matthew would live with it.

After leaving Luna’s house, they climbed on his bike, which was parked a few houses down. Luna wrapped her arms around him, pressing her face against his neck. Matthew didn’t know how he was supposed to concentrate, but as she held him, he didn’t care. Luna was on the back of his bike, exactly where she belonged.

The ride to the clubhouse wasn’t a long one, but seeing as his world was traveling behind him without a helmet, he didn’t go too fast.

They arrived at the clubhouse, and he saw Preach standing outside, arms folded, staring at the gate.

Matthew parked his bike next to Kid’s and Rick’s.

Luna climbed off, and Matthew took her hand. “Can I take Luna with me?” he asked, approaching Preach.

“Yeah, you can.”

Preach didn’t move for several seconds, just stared at the gate, and then, he turned and followed close behind them. Matthew didn’t know what was going on, but he didn’t care.

Arriving at the clubhouse, he saw his father, Pike, Crazy, Raoul, Holly, Mary, and a few others were all gathered.

“Prez?” Matthew asked.

Duke stepped up toward him. Matthew didn’t know what this was about. “It is time, son,” he said. “Time for you to take your place with Kid and with Rick. You boys, you’ve proven yourselves, and it’s now for you to become a Trojan.”

Matthew couldn’t believe it as he was led out the back. There were Kid and Rick. They no longer wore their labeled prospect leather cuts.

“Give it to me, son,” Duke said.

He couldn’t believe it. He’d earned his patch.

Matthew let go of Luna’s hand and handed the leather cut to Duke, to his father, to his Prez.
