As he mumbled something about fucking idiots and mages with too much time on their hands, I had to try not to laugh. I wasn’t subtle enough, though, and he shot me a quick frown. “Something funny?”

Oops.

What would Kenzie do?

What would Kenzie do?

No, what would Lorne do?

“No, Daddy. I was just trying to decide if the magic needed me to touch your hand or if I could be touching…something else.”

Yep, Lorne was insane but a genius.

“Best distraction ever. You win the prize.” Shaking his head like he couldn’t believe I’d just won an Oscar, he sighed. “Yep, that was a really good one. You’re going to need a reward.”

It felt safe to laugh at that point, but I didn’t let it go on long.

As quickly as I could, I fought to keep a straight face and smiled. “Thank you?”

Grady chuckled, his eyes sparkling as he turned down the correct road without any help. “You’re welcome. And I’m amazing. These fucking roads are nuts. I knew my GPS wasn’t haunted.”

Was that a thing?

Nope, I wasn’t going to get distracted.

“We’ll get you fixed up right away so you can find your way around town.” And someone was going to have to fix the roads because the spells were all kinds of wonky. “I’m really sure the spells weren’t this obvious before.”

I just wasn’t sure when before was.

Grady scoffed. “Someone half-assed recharging the spells.”

He seemed sure of that but I had no idea what he meant. I wasn’t involved with any of the maintenance committees, and I couldn’t even begin to guess what had gone wrong. “Lorne’s mage mate…he’ll know who to talk to. He just might not have driven in this area recently.”

He’d been kind of busy keeping Lorne from doing stupid shit.

Like talking him into a spell that gave my mate a compulsion.

Yep, more supervision was required for that little dragon.

“Remind me before you go to work tomorrow that I shouldn’t leave the property.” Sighing, he shook his head as he pulled into the driveway. “I’m just not going to be thinking of it, and I’ll end up driving in circles half the day because I went to Walmart.”

I knew I shouldn’t laugh, but it was painful holding it back.

I was doing pretty well, though, until Grady turned off the car and made an after you kind of gesture. “No, just do it. I know how insane that sounds.”

Catching myself after a quick bark of laughter, I shook my head. “It doesn’t sound insane, but it was kind of funny picturing you driving in circles because you couldn’t find the house. Not that it would actually be funny. I know that would be insanely frustrating.”

Rolling his eyes as he released his seat belt, Grady leaned closer and gave me the sexiest glare. “You’re very lucky you had such a good distraction earlier.”

I couldn’t help the way my face heated up, but that didn’t stop the rest of me from reacting in a different way. “Being creative and thinking outside the box is very important.”

He wanted to laugh, but he did a fabulous job of keeping up his glare. “Really, huh? I’ll have to remember that when I need to punish you.”

I really shouldn’t have moaned…but I did because I didn’t seem to have any self-preservation instincts when it came to him.

His smile finally peeked out, but it was a devilish grin that said he was going to enjoy fucking with me at some point. “Such a naughty boy.”

Hmm.

“Not…not too naughty, Daddy.” Yes, I had to look cute to make sure we stayed on the reward the good boy path and not veer off anywhere dangerous. “I was thinking about you on the whole drive back and I grabbed your arm very quickly when you said you needed your good boy’s help.”

That might not have been his exact words but it was what he’d meant.

His smile flashed wider before it shifted into a naughty smirk. “What did you say after you helped me?”

Oh.

Daddy wasn’t psychic yet and he needed me to talk.

I wasn’t sure how much of the bond he was feeling but just sensing what I was feeling wasn’t enough to make sure he knew it was okay to take things up a notch.

Daddy was the careful type and that could be dangerous.

He was my mate and mates were always compatible.

I could do it and not feel silly.

Leaning forward, I kissed his cheek and whispered softly. “I told you about another place I was thinking about touching. But I’m your good boy and I wouldn’t do anything naughty while you were driving.”

I especially wouldn’t startle him while he was driving on disappearing roads.

The streets around town weren’t bad but there were some hills that I shouldn’t surprise Daddy with.

Chuckling softly, he tilted his head and kissed my neck. “What were you imagining touching? Let me hear it, naughty boy.”
