"Well, what about us?" he asks me and in the last twelve years he has never ever pushed me to call what we have anything. I mean, sure, we've never said we were not seeing other people while he was away and I was here. I mean, I know that I wasn't seeing anyone and I never asked him if he was seeing anyone else. Mainly because even if he said he was, I wasn't going to give him what he wanted. I never asked and he never told me. But the last six months that he's been back, it's been evident that we were only seeing each other.

"What about us?" I ask him, trying to be confused by his question. "It's me and it's you and now there is a baby."

"Our baby." He points at him and then to me. "I don't want to argue with you," he says softly. "I just want you to know that you can't get rid of me."

I roll my eyes. "I never said I wanted to get rid of you." The thought of not being with him hurts my heart, but I also know that eventually I'm not going to be with him. I've been preparing my heart for this for a while now. I just didn't think it would be so soon.

"No, but you also never said you wanted me either," he says and his tone sounds like he's hurt. "I mean, I know you like spending time with me. At least at night." He smirks and I can't tell if he's hurt or not. "I don't want to take your independence from you," he murmurs softly. "The last thing I want is for you to do something you don't want to do and then blame me for stopping you from doing it." I don't say anything or interrupt him, instead I listen to him. "What I'm saying is that I want to be there for you and the baby not because I have to, but because I want to. I want to go to the doctor with you. I want to cook you dinner or breakfast." He winks at me and I can feel that he's changing the subject. "I want to go for a walk with you down the street. I want to, I don't know, at least be able to hold your hand when I want to." He shrugs. "But to be honest, it doesn't matter what I want because at the end of the day I want you happy." I swallow the lump in my throat because all I want to say is that he makes me happy. That being with him makes me happy. I want to tell him that but I don't, I don't say anything. "Now go and watch television so I can finish cooking."

"For the record," I say, pushing away from the counter. "You make me happy," I admit and his eyes light up a bit. "And it smells delicious."

"Good." He nods at me. "Now come give me a kiss."

"So needy," I joke, walking to him and standing beside him, wrapping my arms around his waist. "It smells really, really good," I say softly and look up at him. He leans down and kisses my lips and just like the first time, everything inside me wakes up. "Now go relax and get off your feet." He motions with his head, bending down again, and rubbing his nose against mine. "Then we can go to bed and you can sneak out on me in the morning."

I can't help but throw my head back and laugh. "Funny, funny guy," I tease, turning around and walking over to the couch. I try to focus on the show that is playing on the television, but instead I place my hand on my stomach. All I can do is watch the man in the kitchen, the man who is quite literally the man of anyone's dream. Even mine if I would give myself a chance at it.

Chapter 10

Bennett

I roll over, reaching out to grab Presley to pull her next to me. My arm finds the bed empty and I open my eyes, seeing that the side of the bed is in fact empty. "Gorgeous," I call for her, pushing up on my elbow. I look around the room, seeing that her stuff is nowhere to be found. I listen for any noise anywhere. Maybe she just got up and is in the bathroom getting dressed, but there is no noise anywhere except for my breathing. "That woman," I huff, pissed at myself for not hearing her sneak out. But in my defense, we were up at five when she wiggled her ass over my cock. It took less than thirty seconds for me to slide into her. I lie back down on my pillow, turning and grabbing my phone from the side table. Pressing the side button, I see that it's just a little after seven thirty. I swipe up, opening the phone app, clicking on recent and finding her at the top of the list.
