I put my hand to my chest as I think about Bennett being my first everything. He's been my first crush, my first time in bed, the first man I've loved, and knowing that the first one never ever works out. Knowing the history and knowing that I should have let him go before makes me hate myself even more. Knowing that I should have cut this out years ago, but one look from him and I forget it all. One touch and I'm a puddle in his hand.

I walk to the bathroom numb, my head spins, and just like every other time I try to tell myself that it's going to be okay. But it's so much more this time. We are having a baby. A baby. I put my hand to my stomach. "No matter what, he's going to love you forever." The tears roll down my cheeks. "He'll be forever your first love." I smile through the tears now. “He'll be forever our first love."

Chapter 8

Bennett

I pick up the phone the minute I get in the car and text her, pulling her name up and smiling as I type the sentence out.

Me: How is everything going?

Putting the phone in the cupholder, I start the car and drink the rest of my protein shake. My chest is rising and falling as I try to get my breathing down to a normal rate. I just spent the last two hours in the gym pushing myself until my arms felt like noodles and my knees were going to give out on me. The phone beeps now, telling me that I have a message and I see her name flash on the center screen.

Gorgeous: Uneventful. Bride showed up, groomed showed up, so they are already winning.

I laugh.

Me: What time are you going to be done?

I look at the clock and see it's just a little bit after eight.

Gorgeous: I should be out of here in about an hour. I'm exhausted.

Me: I can come and get you if you want.

Gorgeous: No, I'm okay to drive.

Me: Okay, come over and I'll cook for you.

Gorgeous: I should go home and take a bath.

Me: Or you can come over and we can take a bath together.

Gorgeous: What are you going to cook me?

Me: Whatever you want.

Gorgeous: Shrimp pasta.

I put my head back; of course she would pick something I have no idea how to cook.

Gorgeous: What's the matter, cat got your tongue? HA HA

Me: Not at all. See you in an hour.

Instead of going straight home, I pull up the best shrimp pasta recipe that I can find online; well, the best according to the stars and reviews. Parking my car, I rush into the grocery store, grabbing everything on the list, along with a can of whipped cream. I also grab some candy and chocolate along with some chips. By the time I walk out of the grocery store and make my way back to my car, the basket is now full. I don't even notice that I was in the store for forty-five minutes and when I get home we arrive at the same time.

I get out of my car and walk over to hers, pulling open her driver’s side door. She looks up at me smiling as I extend my hand to her. "Hey, gorgeous." She slips her hand in mine and puts one foot out and I see she is wearing her white stiletto heels. She grabs her bag with her free hand, standing up. Her hair is loose and curled at the end and I want nothing more than to bury my hands in it.

"Hi." She smiles and I let go of her hand and wrap it around her waist.

"You smell so good," I say, burying my face in her neck and kissing her.

"I wish I could say the same." She laughs and pushes me away, but I don't let go of her waist. Instead, I pull her even closer to me. Her chest is against mine and she puts her hands on my bare arms. I look down at the gray T-shirt that I'm wearing and the basketball shorts I threw on when I got to the gym.

"I was going to shower when I got home." I kiss her lips. "But then someone wanted shrimp. If I knew that it would take me this long, I would have showered at the gym."

"If it makes you feel any better." She doesn't move her hands from my arms. "I'm really, really hungry. Clarabella brought me a slider and just the look of it made my stomach lurch."

"How does that make me feel better?" I let her go and grab her hand as we walk back to my car and I pop the trunk with my free hand. "It makes me feel even worse, since it'll take forty-five minutes minimum to cook.” I open the trunk and she gasps out as she sees it’s full.
