“As much as I’d like to hole up in the truck, I kind of need to take a look at it for Sienna.” I may not have gotten the form down on throwing clay, but I do know the ins and outs from my time in the class before I dropped it like a lead weight.

“Something changes, just give me the sign. I can always FaceTime you or Sienna.” I reach for his hand, lacing our fingers and giving him a slight squeeze.

“Thank you.” I lift my body up, my other hand cupping his cheek, and place a soft kiss against his lips. We both would have taken it a step further, except we’re on a crunch for time, and as it is, Amos wants to drive the whole way through. No stopping unless it’s for necessities, and I can’t even offer to help him drive because I have zero experience when it comes to pulling a trailer.

“Anytime, sweetheart.” He exits the vehicle. I watch as he walks around the hood of the truck, staying where I am until he opens my door. His hand reaches for mine, and our fingers are once again locked together. I’ve noticed anytime Amos has a chance, he’s touching me in some sort of way, and I love every moment of it.

He guides us to the front of the building, opens the door, and even though I lose his hand in mine, his palm presses in at the small of my back.

“Welcome. You must be Genevieve and Amos.” We’re greeted by a lady with long gray hair, so long it’s down to her waist, and warm chocolate eyes. She’s got multiple bracelets stacked on both arms and is wearing a tank top, a long flowy skirt, and she’s barefoot.

“We are,” Amos confirms. We walk in further, and I break away from him to take a look at what I’m assuming is the pottery wheel.

“It’s nice to meet you.” I hear them say a few words to one another. I pull my phone out of my pocket, pulling up Sienna’s contact to fire off a text.

Me: Sienna, there’s no way this is brand new and for a steal. This thing looks like it was built before you and I were born.

“Watcha think?” Amos asks me. I look from my phone to the wheel to Amos. I scrunch up my nose, and he quirks an eyebrow.

“Waiting on Sienna to respond now,” I say with a shake of my head.

“Alright, let me know what she has to say. I’ll talk to her for a few minutes and get the consensus, yeah?”

“Let her down easy.” There’s no way we’re buying this hunk of junk. Either this lady skunked Sienna with pictures, which would need a hell of a lot of lighting, or my best friend pulled a fast one.

“Will do.” Amos’ fingertips slide down the back of my arms.

My phone buzzes in my hand. That didn’t take long.

Sienna: That’s too bad. Bummer, man. It looked good online.

Me: You’re so full of shit.

I call her out. There’s no way she didn’t know this thing was a hunk of junk.

Sienna: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Me: Sure, you totally shanghaied me to ride down here with your brother for nothing?

Sienna: Was it really for nothing? Amos added two days onto his trip, and Trey has talked to Amos, which, by the way, I have not heard a peep from you.

Me: Well, no. I really like him, Sienna, as in I’m falling for him. Hard and fast.

Sienna: I knew it! We’re going to be sisters. I love you! Don’t worry about the wheel. I’ll see you soon, but not too soon

Me: Love you, too, and I think you’re putting the cart before the horse.

Sienna: We’ll see about that.

I put my phone in my back pocket and turn around to look for Amos. He’s talking to the lady who greeted us. It sounds like he’s wrapping up the conversation, so I walk toward him.

“Thank you again. I appreciate your time,” he tells her.

“You’re welcome. Good luck and safe travels.” Amos assured me the bison would be okay while we went inside. Otherwise, I’d have stayed with them just in case. He told me they had plenty of water and food for the long haul, the trailer and gate were locked in a way that no one could take off with them, and seeing as how my knowledge of all of this is pretty much null and void, I went along with him.

Amos opens the shop door for me, and I take a deep sigh of relief when we round the corner and see the bison. My irrational fear of them being gone or hurt subsides.

“They’re good, sweetheart. You ready for the long haul?” He reads my mind.

“Mentally, yes. Physically, not even close. And don’t even get me started on the fact that you’re going to drive straight through without any help.” I blow out a puff of air as worry claws at my chest. Yet, I’m stuck, completely and totally stuck.
