I push away how much that whole statement bothers me. “You need to eat,” I remind her, and she looks up at me. “Chances are, you’ll stay at the office late and forget to eat.”

She smirks. “I want to argue with you.” She holds up her fork, and I can see the heavy conversation is past us. I know we should talk about it. I know there is so much more to say, but I think we’re scared of what the outcome actually means.

“Of course you do.” I wink at her. “If you want to have makeup sex, all you have to do is ask for it.”

She rolls her eyes at me. “Haven’t you had enough of me?” She tilts her head to the side, and I lied before. Here in front of me with no makeup on, her hair hanging loose from being pulled most of the night, wearing my T-shirt, she looks the most beautiful she’s ever looked.

“I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of you.” I put down my fork and stop talking before I tell her I think I’ve fallen in love with her because it will be awkward if she’s not there yet. I know she likes me, but I’m not sure she’s at the same level I am. It’s the scariest thing I’ve ever done.

“We’ll see about that,” she mumbles. I ignore the comment, not wanting the last couple of hours we have together to be us arguing about where we are, where we’re going, and what we’re going to do. I let her finish eating before I get up and hold my hand out to her, taking her back to bed one last time.

This time, it’s like we both know it’s the last time. So it’s slow, keeping everything in my memory, even knowing it’s never going to be as good as the real thing. We get dressed at the same time, neither of us saying a word. I pack my bag and spot her slipping another one of my T-shirts in her backpack.

Her phone pings, letting her know her driver is downstairs. Leaving my bag on the bed, I take her bag from her before walking out of the room. I slide my hand in hers as we get into the elevator and go down. My thumb rubs her hand, trying to make her feel what I feel for her.

Thankfully, the lobby is not busy, so we just walk out, and I spot the bus over to the right before seeing the black SUV waiting for her. The driver gets out. “Ms. Beckett?” he asks, and she nods at him before he opens the door for her. I hand him her bag, and he takes it, putting it across on the seat.

“We’ll be a second,” she tells him, and he nods at her before closing the door, walking around the SUV, and getting in on the driver’s side.

“You’ll text me when you land?” I ask her as my throat feels like something is lodged in it. My hand slips out of hers as I hold her hips in my hands.

Her hands go to my chest and the flap of my jacket. “I will text you when I land.” Her hands nervously strum my chest. “You’ll call me when you land?”

“Will do.” I nod, pulling her closer to me. “Thank you for coming to visit me.”

“I figured it was the least I could do.” She wraps her arms around my neck, her smile filling her face, but her eyes, the smile doesn’t go to her eyes, so she’s faking it.

I put my forehead on hers, the pounding in my chest feeling like my heart is going to come right out from it. Instead of saying anything, I just bend my head to kiss her lips, wrapping my arms around her waist. This kiss is the perfect ending to one of the best nights. Once I let go of her lips, I lift her off her feet, giving her a big hug. “I miss you.” I bury my face in her neck, and I know she heard me when she plays with my hair.

I put her down and give her one more kiss before I open the door for her. “Safe flight, gorgeous.” I kiss her lips one more time.

She puts her hand on my cheek. “Safe flight, SR.” Her smile is as sad as I feel. She steps into the SUV and holds up her hand while I close the door. I hold up my own hand when she puts her hand to her lips and blows me a kiss before the SUV drives away. I watch it until the red lights blend into traffic, and I can’t see them anymore.

With my head hanging down, I walk back in, going to my room and grabbing my bag. The last thing I want to do is stay in the room that still smells like her. Instead, I go down to the lobby and wait for the guys to come down.
